About The Position

The Content Engineer role at iPullRank is an architect of content from a relevance engineering perspective. They are responsible for helping our clients understand, apply and drive search performance across modalities. With advanced understanding of search algorithms, machine learning, and AI search, the Content Engineer leads content marketing efforts that bridge the gap between SEO, content strategy, and relevance engineering to offer in-depth and strategic content from a technical and algorithmic perspective. This role will lead internal initiatives and collaborate with the Head of Content to actively develop new strategies and methodologies to share internally, with our agency’s clients, and with the SEO community. This job may be hybrid or remote. East Coast preferred but U.S.-based required. Salary range: $100-120K

Requirements

  • 5-8 years of experience in SEO-specific content strategy
  • Strong background in content marketing with demonstrated results in organic search
  • Highly proficient in productivity applications Microsoft Office or Google Workspace
  • Strong analytical mindset and skills, excellent problem-solving skills
  • Exceptionally clear oral and written communication skills
  • Strong project-management skills
  • High level of initiative and ownership, and the ability to work well in a team environment
  • Possess thorough, up-to-date knowledge of search engine ranking factors and maintains current SEO practices
  • Previous client-facing experience
  • Proficiency with HTML, CSS required
  • Proficiency with Analytics packages and Google Search Console
  • Proficiency with APIs and Google's Apps Script
  • Expertise with industry-standard SEO and Content software, such as SEMRush and Ahrefs

Nice To Haves

  • Experience working in an agency environment
  • Experience with User Experience and Web Strategy
  • Backend programming language such as Python
  • Relational Database skills such as MySQL or BigQuery required
  • Experience with Social Media Marketing

Responsibilities

  • Assess content through the lens of relevance signals including semantic relationships, entity connections, and topical authority
  • Create relevance scoring methodologies that help clients understand how their content aligns with user intent and algorithmic expectations
  • Optimize content architecture to maximize topical coverage and semantic coherence
  • Create technical content guidelines for clients that balance user experience with algorithmic optimization
  • Audit existing content for relevance signals, structural issues, and optimization opportunities
  • Audit content from a qualitative and quantitative perspective to inform content strategies
  • Guide content creation processes to ensure alignment with both search engine and audience expectations
  • Work with internal and external content production teams to ensure implementation of best practices in content creation
  • Develop testing frameworks to measure content effectiveness before and after optimization
  • Develop strategies that optimize content performance across text search, image search, video platforms, and voice assistants
  • Monitor emerging search modalities and develop strategies for new platforms
  • Establish KPIs that measure content effectiveness from both user and algorithmic perspectives
  • Create reports that track content performance as it relates to relevance, visibility, traffic and engagement
  • Analyze performance data to identify patterns and refine strategies
  • Communicate results and insights to stakeholders in clear, actionable formats, such as in QBRs that showcase content performance
  • Lead client presentations and trainings explaining complex technical concepts in accessible ways
  • Provide ongoing consultation to clients on content performance, identifying gaps and opportunities
  • Build tools and processes that scale relevance engineering insights across multiple clients
  • Monitor and analyze changes in search algorithms across Google, Bing, and emerging AI search platforms
  • Research and document how machine learning models evaluate and rank content across different modalities (text, video, images, voice)
  • Conduct experiments to understand ranking factor interactions and their impact on content performance
  • Write in-depth articles, whitepapers, and guides on relevance engineering and technical SEO topics
  • Contribute to iPullRank's reputation as an authority in content engineering
  • Assist the content manager and internal writers with routing and delivery of content to clients
  • Communicating the client’s vision to internal and freelance writers
  • Mentor and lead junior team members
