About The Position

The Consumer Safety Inspector position is responsible for ensuring that regulated establishments produce safe food products by conducting inspections, verifying compliance with sanitation and safety standards, and documenting any non-compliance. This role involves working closely with plant managers and other stakeholders to communicate regulatory requirements and enforce compliance, while also conducting sampling and testing to identify potential issues in food safety.

Requirements

  • 1 year of specialized experience equivalent to the next lower level in a similar position.
  • Experience in consumer safety inspection, food inspection, or public health inspection.
  • Skill in applying techniques for collecting samples and performing field tests.
  • Skill in developing written reports and reporting findings orally.
  • Skill in maintaining effective personal contacts with a variety of individuals.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience in quality control and sanitation in food manufacturing or production environments.
  • Knowledge of properties and characteristics of regulated food commodities.

Responsibilities

  • Ensure regulated establishments produce safe products by executing appropriate inspection methods.
  • Verify compliance with Sanitation Standard Operating Procedures (SSOP) and Hazard Analysis and Critical Control Point (HACCP) Plans.
  • Execute SSOP and HACCP Plans to prevent unsanitary conditions and adulteration of products.
  • Review records and conduct hands-on verification to ensure compliance with regulatory requirements.
  • Prepare detailed documentation of non-compliance with regulatory requirements.
  • Determine when regulatory control action is necessary and assess plant corrective actions.
  • Conduct regulatory oversight activities related to consumer protections.
  • Communicate with plant managers and owners about legal and regulatory requirements.
  • Advise other Agency inspectors on inspection and enforcement matters.
  • Conduct samplings, surveys, and tests to obtain data on potential problem areas.
