The position is for a Consumer Safety Inspector with the U.S. Department of Agriculture's Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS). The inspector will primarily work in one plant but may be detailed to any shift at any plant in the Des Moines District. The job involves ensuring that regulated establishments produce safe products by executing appropriate inspection methods, determining non-compliance with regulatory requirements, and documenting non-compliance. The inspector will also verify that meat and poultry slaughter and processing establishments' Sanitation Standard Operating Procedures (SSOP) and Hazard Analysis and Critical Control Point (HACCP) Plans meet regulatory requirements. The position requires occasional travel and is a permanent, full-time role with a promotion potential up to GS-9.
