About The Position

The Consumer Safety Inspector position involves working primarily in one plant but may require detailing to any shift at any plant within the Atlanta / Springdale / Jackson District. The role is critical in ensuring the safety and quality of food products for human consumption, requiring specialized experience in food inspection and safety standards.

Requirements

• Must meet time-in-grade requirements for promotion.
• At least 52 weeks of specialized experience for the GS-05 level.
• Experience must include knowledge of properties and characteristics of regulated food commodities.
• For GS-07 level, at least one year of experience equivalent to GS-05 level.
• For GS-08 level, at least one year of experience equivalent to GS-07 level, including knowledge of Federal Meat, Poultry, and Egg Products Inspection Acts.
• For GS-09 level, at least one year of experience equivalent to GS-08 level with independent duties.

Nice To Haves

• Experience with SSOP and HACCP principles and practices.
• Basic mathematics and elementary statistical concepts for testing and sampling procedures.

Responsibilities

• Inspect regulated food commodities and substances for compliance with safety standards.
• Collect samples and perform field tests and examinations.
• Document findings and communicate results to relevant stakeholders.
• Maintain effective personal contacts with various individuals regarding food safety standards.
• Independently carry out routine and standard assignments related to food safety.
