About The Position

To underwrite the highest risk consumer loans which require additional expertise evaluating potential credit risk. To serve as a contact point above the underwriter level for loans which require additional adeptness to structure the loan to mitigate risk. To accurately analyze lending reports and make recommendations on improving lending practices. To help ensure compliance with credit union policy, procedure, NCUA, CFPB and others.

Requirements

  • Requires a minimum of two years of lending experience
  • One year of decisioning in a Consumer Lending setting preferred.
  • Associate’s degree in business, finance or related field. Education must be from an accredited institution and will be verified.
  • Or, in addition to the above requirements, 2 additional years of experience in a financial setting.
  • Intermediate skills in Microsoft Office (Outlook, Word, PowerPoint and Excel) preferred
  • Demonstrated experience with Symitar.
  • Allegro/CUDL/Lending preferred
  • Demonstrated ability to clearly express ideas, methodology, results and recommendations verbally, in writing and through insightful reports and graphic illustrations
  • Demonstrated ability in statistical calculations and statistical techniques/methods.
  • Self-starter with strong organizing and time management skills and the ability to work productively and efficiently in a fast-paced environment with multiple projects and timelines
  • Adaptive to change, responds positively to altered circumstances or conditions
  • Possess a desire and willingness to learn and continually update knowledge base on financial concepts, strategies, systems etc.
  • Takes initiative to be a problem solver and provide suggestions to improve processes and efficiencies.
  • Excellent inter-personal skills including the ability to lead and collaborate with ad-hoc teams
  • Data analytics and data validation skills and proficiency in business data analysis (MS Excel, etc.)
  • Ability to talk, hear, sit, use hands to handle or feel and reach with hands and arms consistently.

  • Ability to lift up to 10 pounds consistently and up to 50 pounds occasionally

Responsibilities

  • Underwrites the highest aggregate MACU debt ($750,000+).
  • Approves the highest risk loans that fall within the risk based lending model with corporate approval/decisioning
  • Underwrites up to $100,000 per request on any type of consumer loan.
  • Presents analysis and decision recommendation to Consumer Lending Underwriter II of applications requiring advanced reviews.
  • Underwrite an acceptable amount of daily applications that meet our business need and turnaround time.
  • Ability to consistently stay calibrated with Consumer Lending Underwriter II to maintain consistent decisioning across all loan types.
  • Willing and able to work in a fast-paced and heavy workload environment, demonstrating a strong ability to multitask with an emphasis on Speed & Focus.
  • Basic understanding of purchase agreements, invoices, contracts, income documentation (including, but not limited to personal and business taxes)
  • Strong analytical skills and attention to detail when reviewing loan applications, credit reports, collateral, member account information, financial statements, personal tax returns and other loan documentation in a timely and thorough manner in order to make consistent, sound lending decisions.
  • Resolves a range of complicated issues with a high degree of interpersonal skills using Mutual Trust & Respect.
  • Maintains confidentiality with others since information involves complex, detailed and often sensitive topics.
  • Requires a basic knowledge of government regulations, compliance issues and credit bureau terminology that includes credit bureau interpretations and fixes.
  • Acts as a resource to ensure loans are in compliance with all applicable laws, regulations, and MACU policies and procedures.
  • Have basic knowledge of branch portfolio to guide branches/Service Center with their decision making.
  • Ability to work both autonomously and collaboratively and taking opportunities to bring out the best in others.

  • Provides triple AAA service to internal employees and our members.
  • Attains and possesses working knowledge of the core system, Symitar and the loan origination system.
  • Provides assistance to other areas within the lending team – i.e. Indirect Lending, Loan Servicing, Lending Quality Control, Business Services etc.
  • Trains new Loan Officers and Managers in a classroom style format.
  • Hosts 1:1 and/or group job shadows for more detailed training to Branch and Service Center employees
  • Assist with onboarding new Corporate Underwriters
  • Leads projects according to business needs. This may involve scheduling and leading meetings, meeting strict deadlines, and maintaining a high level of organization and prioritization of work.
  • Works together with all teams to accomplish monthly, quarterly and annual goals
  • High mathematical aptitude for calculating risks and understanding financial data.
  • Organizational skills to manage priorities and workflow efficiently.
  • Provides excellent service by using effective communication skills, both verbal and written, through chat, over the phone and in person to effectively convey decisions and conditions of the loan.
  • Interactions involve using mutual trust and respect to gain the agreement of others that are often difficult or stressful in nature .
  • Educates, trains and assists branches/Service Center to achieve the goals of Mountain America and meet the needs of our members.
  • Acts as a resource for branches and other credit union personnel in lending policy and procedure.
  • Maintains knowledge of MACUs lending updates, criteria, guidelines, procedures, policies, and processes to make sound lending decisions.
  • Demonstrates strong analytical abilities and can make recommendations using this information to structure quality loans.
  • Helps to resolve member disputes and reevaluates consumer loans previously denied at the request of branches and/or members.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
