About The Position

The Consumer Loan Underwriter is responsible for creating an exceptional lending experience by making timely and accurate decisions on various consumer loan requests, including auto loans, HELOCs, and unsecured loans. This role involves collaboration with members and staff across different channels to ensure compliance with lending policies and regulations while upholding the organization's mission and values.

Requirements

• Three years' experience in a Consumer Underwriter or similar role for a financial institution required.
• High school diploma preferred.
• Excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills.
• Strong relationship building and teamwork skills.
• Excellent organizational and time management skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities.
• Multi-lingual capabilities, including Spanish, are a plus.

Responsibilities

• Complete annually required Product and Process Knowledge competency testing and job-related courses as established by Harborstone Credit Union policies.
• Build trust with members and internal staff by embodying and demonstrating the Core Values of the organization.
• Advocate for Harborstone's members by offering opportunities for financial equity and prosperity.
• Inform the community about effective financial products, services, and solutions.
• Analyze applicants' financial status, credit, and property evaluations to determine loan feasibility.
• Obtain and compile copies of loan applicants' credit histories and other financial information.
• Request and review supporting documentation to validate aspects of the credit file.
• Evaluate member income documentation, including paystubs and personal tax returns.
• Adhere to all stated lending policies and procedures.
• Identify application and credit trends to inform management.
• Work in a hybrid environment using multiple technologies and approaches.
• Perform other job duties as assigned.
