About The Position

Rockland Federal Credit Union (RFCU) is searching for a Consumer Loan Underwriter to join our Consumer Lending team. This role will combine your underwriting and communication experience to assist our members through the loan application process.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or equivalent required
  • Five plus (5+) years of consumer/indirect lending experience.
  • Experience reviewing credit bureau reports with a solid understanding of consumer credit and applicable federal and state consumer lending regulations.
  • Highly skilled in credit decisioning
  • Requires excellent communication skills (oral and written)
  • Strong technical skills, with the ability to maintain a high level of accuracy and perform.
  • Ability to make independent decisions (within the scope of position), and effectively meet tight deadlines in a high-volume, fast-paced environment.

Responsibilities

  • Underwrites indirect/direct loan applications by analyzing credit reports and credit application data while adhering to all RFCU policies, procedures and regulatory requirements. Makes recommendations to management on approvals of applications over their assigned level of authority.
  • Leverages technology to deliver prompt and accurate communication of loan decisions, with an awareness of a changing digital environment.
  • Assists callers (dealers and members) with questions about loans, the loan process, and credit approval/denial in accordance with legal and regulatory standards. May participate in dealer site visits with the Business Development Officer.
  • Verifies accuracy of credit applications from all sources (internal and external) with a focus of combating fraudulent applications.
  • Reviews documents to support credit decision (verification of income, tax returns, personal financial statement, additional supporting documentation, etc.) Assists with the generation of adverse action letters in order to maintain regulatory compliance.
  • Responds to member and brand/department loan inquiries promptly and courteously. Ensures that issues/problems are handled in an efficient and timely manner.
  • Performs responsibilities in accordance with all applicable federal and state regulations, including but not limited to the Bank Secrecy Act, Fair Credit Reporting Act, Fair Lending & Equal Credit standards, FACT Act, Truth in Lending Act and Military Lending Act.
