As a Consumer Loan Specialist, you will: Demonstrates a highly motivated, positive, out-going, influential informative personality with a strong emphasis on sales and results orientation to ensure the credit union maximizes lending and sales opportunities with members who apply for credit over the phone, on-line, or in person. Interviews members to discuss member’s overall financial position and assist in all aspects of the lending process. Looks for opportunities to cross-sell other credit union products and services, makes recommendations to borrowers and if appropriate, referrals to the Mortgage Department. Serves as a trusted advisor to membership by viewing situations from the member’s perspective to effectively respond to their needs and concerns, often going beyond the initial need or expressed concern of the member depending on the situation. Actively and consistently seeks qualified opportunities to increase loan volume and residual product penetration. Consistently meet or exceed established sales goals by overcoming objections by presenting appropriate solutions to fit members’ needs and enhance the quality and depth of member relationships and profitability. Ensures all necessary information is obtained on loan applications to permit a proper loan evaluation and decision. Responsible for providing timely and accurate information, responses and communication of decisions to the members and assist Loan Processors when needed in the timely gathering of stipulations assigned by underwriters. Prioritizes work to achieve funding goals and maintain above average closing ratios.

Requirements

  • Requires education equivalent to a four-year high school education or general education degree (GED). Some post-secondary education preferred.
  • Professional, well-developed interpersonal skills essential for interviewing loan applicants and projecting a positive image as representative of the Credit Union. Ability to succeed in a high stress environment and is able to meet goals and objectives.
  • Work requires knowledge of consumer loan policy and procedures, credit granting criteria, interest rates and how they are computed, loan products and services, credit bureau reports and scores, credit histories, Mechanical Breakdown protection, Guaranteed Asset Protection (GAP), Debt Cancellation Protection. Knowledge of interviewing skills and techniques also required.
  • Aware of personal, team, departmental and Credit Union goals and is able to prioritize work to achieve funding goals.
  • Technologically Astute – Must demonstrate the ability to use technology to effectively and efficiently perform job functions.
  • Requires judgment to apply broader aspects of established practices to situations, which go beyond clear, concise guidelines.
  • 1 - 3 years of consumer lending and/or sales experience in a credit union or financial institution preferred. Experience in loan interviewing required.
  • Must obtain and maintain in good standing a Nationwide Mortgage Licensing System (NMLS) number to act as a home equity loan originator.
  • Intermediate mathematical skills required (calculations and concepts involving decimals, percentages, fractions, etc.)
