About The Position

The Patient Registration Specialist at UChicago Medicine AdventHealth Bolingbrook is responsible for ensuring that patients are accurately registered for various service lines. This role involves verifying eligibility, obtaining pre-certifications and authorizations, making financial arrangements, and performing cashiering functions. The specialist will maintain close communication with clinical partners to enhance patient experience and provide exemplary service to both internal and external customers.

Requirements

• High School degree or equivalent required.
• One year or more of relevant healthcare experience preferred.
• One or more years of customer service experience preferred.
• Associate's degree preferred.
• Bilingual - English/Spanish preferred.

• Knowledge of insurance verification processes.

Responsibilities

• Ensure patients are appropriately registered for all service lines.
• Perform eligibility verification and obtain pre-certifications and authorizations.
• Make financial arrangements and request payments for services.
• Perform cashiering functions and clear registration errors.
• Maintain a close working relationship with clinical partners for effective communication.
• Provide PBX (switchboard) coverage and support as needed.
• Contact insurance companies to verify eligibility and benefits.
• Verify medical necessity in accordance with CMS standards.
• Obtain pre-authorizations from third-party payers and enter required information in systems.
• Correct demographic, insurance, or authorization related errors and pre-bill edits.
• Register patients for all services and achieve accuracy goals.
• Calculate patients' co-pays, deductibles, and co-insurance and provide estimates of financial responsibility.
• Establish payment plan arrangements for patients and collect payments.
