About The Position

We are seeking an outstanding Engineer II, Consumables New Product Introduction (cNPI) to join the Manufacturing Systems Engineering (MSE) team at 10x Genomics. This is a key position for the commercialization of consumable products within the Global Operations Engineering team. This multi-disciplinary position involves close collaboration with various groups including Microfluidics, Supply Chain Management, and New Product Development. You will play a key role in transferring new plastic components to volume manufacturing. This role partners with the Operations, NPI, Customer Support, and R&D teams to improve robustness and efficiencies across multiple product lines. The ideal candidate will have a proven track record in supporting complex plastic components used in on-market equipment for the life science or medical device industry. They should possess a broad understanding of the design and manufacturing of complex plastic systems and excel in solving complex problems. As a member of the team, you will be instrumental in supporting 10x manufacturing, supply chain, and service & support teams to deliver products that enable accelerated understanding of biology.

Requirements

  • B.S. in Mechanical, Plastics, or Manufacturing Engineering with 3+ years of experience (preferably within biotechnology or life science engineering or manufacturing), or a M.S. with 0+ years of experience.
  • Fundamental understanding of 3D mechanical design, experience using CAD with SolidWorks experience a plus
  • Experience with injection molding, co-molding, or thermoforming, etc., including designing parts for plastic molding, iterating on mold parameters, and troubleshooting issues from molding.
  • Familiarity with data compilation and analysis tools [e.g. Excel, JMP]; ability to assist in interpreting Gage R&R studies and process capability [Cpk] trends.
  • Fundamental understanding of geometric tolerancing per ASME Y14.5, dimensional stack-ups, inspection procedures and metrology equipment.
  • Ability to travel internationally as needed.
  • Strong written and oral communication skills.

Nice To Haves

  • Direct experience with injection molding of precision plastics.
  • Strong foundation in statistics and design of experiments.
  • Experience with Arena PLM and Oracle ERP systems; creating, managing, and reviewing engineering change orders, engineering drawings, purchase specifications, and receiving inspection reports.
  • Programming and simulation skills (e.g., Matlab, Python, COMSOL, OpenCV, C++)

Responsibilities

  • Help plan, execute and support the release to volume manufacturing of complex consumable products - e.g. LSR-thermoplastic assemblies, COC/COP precision molded microfluidics consumables.
  • Assist with Design for Manufacturability (DFM) analysis on new plastic components and provide feedback on designs.
  • Qualify new plastic components with suppliers to ensure vendor quality, yield and reliability.
  • Support the transfer of new parts to suppliers utilizing compounding, molding, solvent bonding of thermoplastics and elastomers, COC, COP, and LSR.
  • Support projects to improve costs and product yield, ensuring smooth production transfer of new designs to established volume manufacturers.
  • Utilize Arena PLM and Oracle ERP systems to manage product lifecycle and manufacturing processes effectively.
  • Ensure close collaboration with microfluidics and cNPI teams.
