About The Position

The position of Social Impact Consultant on Climate Change at the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB) focuses on addressing the impacts of climate change on the lives and livelihoods of people in Latin America and the Caribbean. The consultant will support the quantification of risks and vulnerabilities related to climate change, particularly in social services such as education, health, and employment. This role is crucial for developing strategies that enhance resilience and adaptation to climate change within the social sector.

Requirements

  • Master's degree (or equivalent advanced degree) in environment, economics, public policy, or related fields.
  • 5 to 9 years of progressive experience in climate data analysis, projections, and modeling, as well as social public policies and climate change sustainability.
  • Proficiency in English and one of the other official languages of the Bank (Spanish, French, or Portuguese).
  • Strong analytical skills and continuous learning mindset.

Responsibilities

  • Develop a data collection and analysis strategy to quantify the impacts of climate change on people's lives and the vulnerability of social services.
  • Conduct a thorough analysis of social and climate databases, including both traditional and non-traditional data sources.
  • Create a methodology to estimate risk and vulnerability to climate impacts, focusing on both individuals and social services.
  • Implement the methodology to quantify risks and vulnerabilities, documenting the process for replication and quality assurance.
  • Generate and organize a database of results integrating risk and vulnerability estimates for various scenarios and territories.
  • Develop specific indicators to measure the impacts of climate change on livelihoods and the vulnerability of social services.
  • Integrate databases and methodologies into the SCL Data ecosystem, ensuring accessibility for future users.
  • Support the production of technical notes with the results of risk and vulnerability quantification.
