About The Position

The position involves comprehensive responsibilities in database administration and operations, focusing on PostgreSQL and Oracle environments. The role requires the installation, configuration, upgrading, and maintenance of database systems across various environments including development, test, staging, and production. The candidate will manage database instances, schemas, users, and storage structures to ensure optimal performance and reliability. Additionally, the role includes monitoring and tuning database performance, identifying bottlenecks, and implementing solutions to improve throughput and response times.

Responsibilities

• Install, configure, upgrade, and maintain PostgreSQL and Oracle database environments across development, test, staging, and production systems.
• Manage database instances, schemas, users, and storage structures to ensure optimal performance and reliability.
• Monitor and tune database performance, identify bottlenecks, and implement solutions to improve throughput and response times.
• Design and manage high-availability and disaster recovery solutions, including replication, clustering, Data Guard, streaming replication, and failover strategies.
• Implement and manage robust backup, recovery, and retention policies using tools such as RMAN (Oracle) and pgBackRest or similar solutions (PostgreSQL).
• Conduct regular disaster recovery tests and document procedures.
• Implement database security policies, manage access controls, and ensure compliance with organizational and regulatory standards.
• Apply patches, perform vulnerability assessments, and support audits by providing required database evidence and documentation.
• Collaborate with developers, architects, and application teams to design efficient database schemas, queries, indexes, and stored procedures.
• Conduct code reviews, performance tuning, and query optimization to improve application performance.
• Automate administrative tasks using scripting languages (e.g., Bash, Python) and infrastructure-as-code tools.
• Implement and maintain database monitoring and alerting solutions to proactively identify and resolve issues.
• Provide advanced troubleshooting and root cause analysis for database incidents, including performance degradation and outages.
• Participate in 24/7 on-call support rotation and planned maintenance activities.
