AECOM is seeking a Consulting Services Intern to be based in New York City, New York. This position is expected to begin in May 2026. The AECOM Advisory Consulting Internship is an opportunity for students and recent graduates to gain hands-on learning experience in an exciting, fast-paced consulting and advisory practice. This is a highly competitive leadership, professional development, and skill-building opportunity open to current students and recent graduates interested in pursuing a career in economic analysis, economic development, real estate, urban planning, public policy, and/or data science. The Internship program is structured to allow interns to work alongside other interns, junior staff, and senior managers to help address challenges and opportunities related to equitable, economic development and growth, real estate development and/or repositioning, climate advisory services, economic diversification, and other types of issues related to our core practice areas. Interns will work on a diverse array of projects and efforts. Projects may cover market analysis, funding and financing strategy (including prioritizing relevant incentives or evaluating value capture opportunity), adaptive reuse studies, pro forma modeling to determine financial feasibility, economic and fiscal impact analysis, and program/policy evaluation to address economic and demographic disparities.

Requirements

  • Candidates must be pursuing a bachelor’s program or higher in Economics, Urban Planning, Public Policy, Finance, Business, Real Estate, Environmental Science, Climate and Sustainability, or a related field and must have completed at least three years of study.
  • Candidates who have recently graduated with a bachelor’s degree and plan to continue with a master’s degree are eligible to apply for these positions.
  • Graduates must have enrolled in their bachelor’s degree in the most previous school term with an interest in pursuing an advanced degree in the same or similar discipline at the conclusion of the internship

Nice To Haves

  • Currently enrolled in master’s degree program in Economics, Urban Planning, Public Policy, Business, Real Estate, Finance, Environmental Science, Climate and Sustainability, or a related field
  • Experience conducting quantitative and qualitative analyses related to economic and community development, equity, housing, public finance, and/or resilience
  • Experience building cashflow models in Excel for real estate development projects
  • Ability to think critically, analyze policy and regulations, and write effectively
  • Fluency with Microsoft Office Suite, especially Excel
  • Strong technical skills, including experience with one or more of the following software packages: ArcGIS and other spatial analysis tools
  • Quantitative/statistical programs such as STATA, R, Python
  • Data and analysis visualization
  • Data sources such as Costar, EMSI, ESRI Business Analyst, BLS
  • Economic impact modeling tools such as RIMS II, IMPLAN, REMI

Responsibilities

  • Performing entry-level work on a variety of assignments designed to develop professional work knowledge and abilities, requiring the application of standard techniques, procedures, and criteria in carrying out tasks.
  • Follows instructions to accomplish tasks assigned by senior staff.
  • Meets required schedules while producing quality work.
  • Limited exercise of judgment is required on details of work and in making preliminary selections and adaptations of methodology.
  • Interns will work alongside other interns and junior staff on collecting data, conducting research, and organizing and synthesizing information to address the opportunities and/or challenges posed by specific projects and efforts for both community-based regional and national clients.
