ERM , a global leader in environmental consulting and sustainability, is looking for a Consulting Senior Associate, Archaeologist to join our team. This is your chance to work on diverse projects across the United States, with a focus on the Upper Midwest and Plains , and gain hands-on experience in the field and office. As a Consulting Senior Associate, Archaeologist, you’ll play a key role in identifying, documenting, and protecting these resources while supporting major infrastructure and development projects. Your work ensures compliance with the National Historic Preservation Act and helps clients make informed, responsible decisions.

Requirements

  • Master’s degree in archaeology, anthropology, or related field. Or equivalent experience.
  • Meets Secretary of the Interior’s Standards for professional qualifications in archaeology.
  • Completion of an archaeological field school.
  • 1–5 years of experience in Phase I–III archaeological fieldwork.
  • Ability to lift up to 30 lbs and work outdoors in variable conditions.
  • Experience as a crew chief or field director.
  • Willingness to travel frequently, work weekends, and exceed 40 hours/week when needed.
  • Driver's License Required: This position requires a valid driver's license and/or the ability to operate a company vehicle due to the nature of job duties, which include frequent travel to various client locations across a large geographical area.
  • Strong technical writing skills and ability to work independently.
  • Ability to pass periodic drug and alcohol testing.
  • This position is not eligible for immigration sponsorship.

Nice To Haves

  • Knowledge of prehistoric and historic artifact assemblages.
  • Experience with digital cameras, GIS, graphics, and/or databases.
  • Familiarity with SHPO site forms and data entry.
  • Understanding of fieldwork and reporting standards in Minnesota, North Dakota, South Dakota, Wisconsin, and Iowa.

Responsibilities

  • Plan, develop, and perform archaeological surveys for project areas.
  • Conduct all levels of field survey, primarily Phase I.
  • Walk long distances in challenging conditions (weather, terrain).
  • Prepare cultural resource report sections and state-specific forms.
  • Comply with corporate Health and Safety standards.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
