About The Position

Are you an experienced Consultant Relations Manager looking to take the next step in your career? In this newly created role, the Consultant Relationship Manager will build strong partnerships by understanding consultants’ investment needs and aligning them with Vontobel’s tailored investment solutions. Success in the role will require the candidate to acquire a deep understanding of Vontobel’s equity, fixed income and quantitative capabilities and effectively articulate these externally. The Consultant Relations Manager will lead engagement with US focused investment consultants to secure ratings and/or recommendations, and will collaborate with the institutional sales team to raise awareness with field consultants and generate opportunities. In addition to external responsibilities, a candidate must work seamlessly with internal departments such as portfolio management, client services, marketing and analytics to ensure exceptional client service.

Requirements

  • 7-10 years of investment sales experience required, working at an institutional asset manager or consulting firm in sales and consultant relations.
  • The ability to creatively leverage intellectual capital and thought leadership to open doors and create commercial partnerships with research consultants.
  • Ability to position our investment expertise across relevant market segments to include: defined contribution, defined benefit, corporate, public pensions, endowment & foundations, as well as oCIOs.
  • A strong sense of professional and personal integrity, as well as high ethical standards.
  • A proven track record demonstrating relationship engagement and success in high level sales production.
  • Commitment to the philosophy and process underlying Vontobel’s investment approach.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, particularly with regards to conveying technical investment approaches and key selling points in a clear and compelling manner.
  • Demonstration of initiative, accountability, and a focus on delivering consistent quality work, coupled with outstanding time management, prioritization and organizational skills.
  • Ability to work independently and within a team to build relationships and interact effectively with business partners.
  • Comfortable traveling on a regular basis.
  • A strong academic background is required; MBA and/or CFA strongly preferred.
  • Series 7 and 63 licenses required.

Responsibilities

  • Lead engagement with several large investment consultants by leveraging existing relationships, acquiring ratings, working with oCIO teams and building strategic relationships.
  • Responsible to help drive the sales strategy and expand Vontobel’s market share by being an intellectual contributor, solution provider and trusted advisor to consultants.
  • Develop a business plan for the relevant firms, collaborating with internal stakeholders, to identify and engage with key decision makers.
  • Coordinate with Senior Institutional Sales & Service, Marketing, Client Portfolio Managers, and Investment team members to fully develop all opportunities in the region and help implement best practices at the firm.
  • Proactively respond to consultant requests including RFPs, quarterly requests and ad hoc outreach while keeping distribution colleagues well informed of all communications.
  • Provide constructive feedback on strategies, market / industry trends and best practices to management, sales and investment management teams.
  • Develop and execute a plan to engage with field consultants to raise awareness of our brand and investment capabilities.
  • Lead complex technical investment discussions, including strategy update meetings, with a sophisticated audience.
  • Build positive relationships across the broader global sales organization, investment communications, operations, legal, compliance and other internal teams critical to the end-to-end client lifecycle.
