About The Position

As Consultant II, Community Relations, you will execute and support strategies that strengthen CarMax’s commitment to the communities where our associates live and work. In this role, you will support community relations and CarMax Foundation programs—including volunteerism and associate giving—by partnering across the business to deliver meaningful community impact. Your work will help translate CarMax’s values into action by supporting trusted nonprofit partnerships, engaging associates in purpose-driven programs, and ensuring operational excellence across community initiatives. The Community Relations team leads CarMax’s enterprise-wide, community-driven engagement and philanthropic efforts, including The CarMax Foundation, associate volunteerism, and giving programs. Our associates are at the heart of this work—giving their time, talents, and passion to serve their communities with pride. The team partners with nonprofit organizations, internal leaders, and associates to design and deliver programs aligned to CarMax’s community focus areas. Requirements

  • 2+ years of experience supporting community relations, nonprofit, corporate social responsibility, or related programs with a focus on project, program, or operations management
  • Experience managing multiple priorities and deadlines in a fast-paced, service-oriented environment
  • Strong organizational, planning, and execution skills with attention to detail
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to engage diverse audiences
  • Demonstrated customer-service mindset when working with nonprofit partners, associates, and internal stakeholders
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint)

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with volunteer management, grant making, or corporate giving programs
  • Experience in process excellence or data analytics
  • Familiarity with relationship management, grant, or volunteer platforms (e.g. Benevity or similar tools)
  • Experience with budget tracking, reporting, or basic financial processes and platforms (e.g. QuickBooks)
  • Volunteer or nonprofit sector experience

Responsibilities

  • Drive and support community relations and Foundation programs, including associate volunteer and giving initiatives, ensuring consistent and effective execution
  • Serve as a program administrator for community and Foundation platforms and tools, supporting data accuracy, reporting, and day-to-day operations
  • Partner with nonprofit organizations and internal stakeholders to process grants, respond to inquiries, and deliver high-quality program experiences
  • Process and track grants, vendor requests, and invoices ensuring timely submission, documentation, and payment support
  • Support and enhance associate engagement opportunities, including volunteer team-builders, matching gift programs, and community activations
  • Track and compile program data related to budgets, participation, and impact, to support ongoing evaluation
  • Contribute ideas for program and process improvements, incorporating feedback from associates and nonprofit partners
  • Develop and maintain clear communications and resources for associates, nonprofit partners, and internal teams
  • Represent CarMax and The CarMax Foundation as a community liaison as needed for program implementation and relationship-building
  • Support additional community relations initiatives and projects as assigned
