The Consultant Engineer position at FM involves conducting risk assessments and evaluations for large commercial properties, particularly in the pulp and paper industry. The role requires a combination of fieldwork and office tasks, with a focus on ensuring compliance with FM Global Engineering Standards. Candidates will have the opportunity to develop their skills through a structured training program and will work independently with minimal supervision.

  • Perform hands-on site assessments of the physical property, including roofs.
  • Conduct evaluations which include site water supplies, dust hazards, chemical storage, and rack storage arrangements for client products.
  • Ensure that FM Global Engineering Standards are followed and communicate appropriate recommendations and/or engineering solutions to clients.
  • Work from a home office and travel to clients' facilities daily, with overnight travel expected approximately 30% of the time.
  • Minimum of a bachelor's degree in engineering (various specialties considered).
  • Two plus years of experience in the pulp and paper industry preferred.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Good analytical, organizational, problem solving, and interpersonal skills.
  • Efficient time management ability with minimal supervision.
  • Solid technical capability including diverse knowledge of engineering principles.
  • Ability to stay focused from a home office environment.
  • Authorization to work in the country you are applying to work in.
  • Physical ability to lift 25 pounds, able to climb ladders, balance, and deal with heights.
  • Proficiency in MS Office products.
  • A valid driver's license.
