About The Position

The Construction Trainer at Proyecto Azteca plays a crucial role in supporting the Construction Supervisor by coordinating rehabilitation and new construction projects. This position involves managing the tool library, conducting training sessions, and ensuring safety and efficiency in construction activities. The Construction Trainer is responsible for hands-on training, community engagement, and resource management to empower families and volunteers in home-building techniques.

Requirements

  • Knowledge of residential construction and remodeling trades, practices, procedures, techniques, tools, and equipment.
  • Ability to perform tasks on all areas and aspects of construction projects.
  • Ability to climb ladders, crawl, lift, and manipulate objects of up to 80 lbs for 50 feet.
  • Proficient in tasks such as stain-grade trim work, hanging doors, drilling and setting door hardware, setting windows, and taping and floating.
  • Good communication skills in both Spanish and English.
  • Ability to establish priorities, work independently, and proceed with objectives without supervision.
  • Ability to handle and resolve recurring problems.
  • Compassion and understanding for the working poor and their needs.

Responsibilities

  • Train and instruct families and volunteers on construction and rehabilitation techniques.
  • Track volunteer hours and sweat equity hours for families.
  • Maintain the tool library, ensuring tools are locked and records are updated.
  • Check out and in tools for families, ensuring they are in good operating condition.
  • Instruct families and volunteers on the correct use of tools and ensure safety precautions are followed.
  • Maintain and control inventory in the shed/warehouse, tagging tools and machinery for inventory control.
  • Maintain landscaping around the office and work yard as necessary.
  • Assist the construction supervisor in identifying and alleviating problem areas in construction and safety.
  • Conduct field visits as assigned by the supervisor.
  • Assist in the upkeep of vehicles and tools.
  • Conduct specialized training workshops on anchoring, weatherization, and heat stress awareness.
  • Organize DIY workshops to empower families with basic maintenance and repair skills.
  • Comply with all company policies and maintain professionalism.
