About The Position

The Construction Surveying and Layout Specialist is responsible for providing construction surveying and layout services for civil assets related to Transmission Substations and Transmission Lines. This role involves managing construction surveying activities, ensuring efficient scheduling of resources, and maintaining safety compliance. The specialist will work closely with various stakeholders to ensure projects are completed on time and within budget, while also mentoring contract survey professionals and enforcing safety standards.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's or higher accredited degree in Surveying, Civil Engineering, Civil Engineering Technology, Construction Management, or similar degree plus a minimum of 5 years' experience in related field preferred
  • High School Diploma/GED and minimum 10 years' experience in civil construction surveying and layout preferred
  • Current licensure as a Georgia Professional Land Surveyor highly preferred
  • Strong knowledge of heavy civil construction means and methods
  • Knowledge of construction surveying and layout technology, guidelines, techniques, and principles
  • Knowledge of proper accounting procedures and protocol, contract compliance/management, and construction industry standards

  • NPDES / GASWCC (blue card or higher) Certified (or ability to obtain certification within the first 6 weeks of employment)

Responsibilities

  • Provide work guidance and support to contract inspectors, contractors, and vendors
  • Take responsibility for safety and mentor on safety rules and practices
  • Schedule and monitor construction surveying and layout activities of multiple contract personnel on capital projects
  • Manage, schedule, and provide construction surveying and layout services for civil construction projects
  • Serve as a subject matter expert in field engineering, construction surveying, and layout
  • Train and mentor other construction inspectors and employees in the use of surveying equipment
  • Advise leadership on the use and procurement of construction surveying equipment and supplies
  • Report status of projects back to project supervisors, managers, and others as needed
  • Review, audit, and approve employee and contractor timesheets, pay applications, and invoices
  • Attend pre-construction meetings to provide expertise on field engineering and construction surveying and layout
  • Schedule and lead project and/or team meetings
  • Verify and provide cost estimates for field engineering and construction surveying services
  • Select and assign contractors to projects and monitor contractor performance
  • Maintain and utilize the Georgia Power Transmission Construction Services Staking Request Tracker
  • Must be available to work assigned storm duty, which could include evenings, weekends, holidays, and overnight travel
