About The Position

The Construction Superintendent will provide key on site leadership to ensure excellence in all aspects of our New Construction and/or Renovation programs. This position will be ultimately responsible for the achievement of annual production goals, budgetary objectives, and quality control while delivering affordable housing in an efficient, safe, and timely manner. The Construction Superintendent leads a team of Site Managers, Apprentices, and others (who in turn lead a primarily unskilled, volunteer workforce), as well as various subcontractor trades in all phases of New Construction from foundations through finish work, and/or Renovations from demo through completion. The position requires strong leadership and creative problem solving capabilities along with the adaptability to flourish in a dynamic construction environment on multiple job sites. Requirements

  • At least four years' construction experience including a minimum of one years in a supervisory role. Two years of relevant college course work may be substituted for some experience.
  • Valid driver’s license and good driving record
  • Self-motivated with strong oral and written communication skills; excellent organizational and time management skills; strong team-building capabilities and ability to work with diverse groups
  • Experience in all phases of residential construction
  • Strong working knowledge of the WSEC, IRC & UBC building code requirements
  • Ability to read and interpret site, architectural, and structural engineering plans
  • Construction math proficiency required
  • Capacity to focus on multiple projects simultaneously and work collaboratively
  • Either have Competent Person certification or the willingness to obtain within the first year on the job.
  • Other OSHA Certifications a plus, but not a substitute.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite software, working with PDFs, email, and diverse communication formats required.

Nice To Haves

  • CAD/Revit (or otherwise) competence a plus.
  • Experience with public speaking, training and meeting facilitation preferred
  • Experience with energy efficient and sustainable construction methods preferred
  • Experience with diverse ethnic and faith communities preferred

Responsibilities

  • Responsible for meeting production goals within established budgets and timelines.
  • Responsible for overall construction safety and organizational compliance in all applicable regulations.
  • Oversee all new home construction activity including, but not limited to: Managing all on site Construction Staff Reviewing plans and completing material take offs Logistics and material coordination Work assignments for staff Assist with scheduling building inspections and coordination with building officials Quality Assurance at all phases of construction Ensure staff maintains Habitat’s tools, safety equipment, scaffolding and heavy equipment in compliance with TPC Habitat’s tools and equipment policies.
  • Assist Director of Construction on the annual schedule & budget
  • Assist with bids for materials and subcontractors for each project
  • Meet regularly with the Director of Construction and Construction Project Manager on project progress, challenges, milestones, schedules, etc.
  • Monitor warranty work requests - respond to emergencies and schedule routine repairs by site managers or subcontractors.
  • Ensure documentation is accurate and complete per warranty policy.
  • Be a positive and knowledgeable representative of Habitat to other staff and to the Public.
  • Engage with staff and leadership and promote the Habitat mission.
  • Other construction duties as required.
  • Uphold a standard for a high level of customer service from staff to individual and group volunteers.
  • Lead weekly safety meetings with staff and ensure daily volunteer safety briefings are performed by Site Managers.
  • Attend weekly meetings with the Director of Construction, Director of Community Engagement, Site Managers, and others to plan on-site volunteer activity and logistics.
  • Collaborate with Director of Community Engagement on volunteer concerns or issues.
  • Overall responsibility for providing strong staff management to ensure a capable, adequately trained team of Construction Site Managers and to ensure employee satisfaction and retention.
  • Includes periodic informal reviews, formal annual reviews, appreciations, and discipline as needed.
  • Ensuring all safety and other organizational policies are followed.
  • Regular and Ongoing coordination with the Logistics Manager and other construction staff on material management (ordering, delivery, receipt, etc) per TPC Habitat Purchasing Policy.
  • Demonstrate and set the expectations of representing Habitat in a fun and positive way to others, and create an environment of inclusivity and mission focused drive.
  • Work with Director of Construction and Site Development to maintain staffing levels, plan for growth and cultivate a work site culture to support the organization's overall mission.
