About The Position

Associate in Engineering 1 – Construction Specialist Oregon Department of Transportation Delivery & Operations Division – Region 5 Construction Section / District 14 Project Management Ontario The role: Join our team as construction specialist in Ontario! In this role, you will perform a variety of office and fieldwork duties. You will interpret contract documents for major and minor construction projects, compile data and apply engineering computations to design simple projects, assist with performing surveys and more. If you are a current Malheur County resident, you will receive 5% preference for this recruitment unless you opt out of receiving the preference. Failure to maintain residency in Malheur County is considered a voluntary termination of employment from the position. A day in the life: Read, understand and interpret contract documents for major and/or minor construction projects. Identify potential problems, propose potential solutions and work with others in their resolution. Ensure contract work is performed in accordance with the documents by monitoring safety procedures and methods, traffic control, the Pollution Control Plan, etc. Understand theories, principles, practices and methodologies of civil or transportation-related engineering. Compile data and statistics and apply engineering computations to design simple projects. Prepare written reports, utilize computer programs to analyze data and use advanced mathematics to solve engineering problems. Assist in performing detailed surveys and calculations using manual and electronic survey equipment, computers and complex software. Work is performed outdoors, with exposure to hazards of traffic and all weather conditions. Work long/flexible hours and weekends and travel from various project sites, meetings and occasional overnight stays are required. Requirements

  • A bachelor’s degree in the field of engineering appropriate to the duties and responsibilities of the position; OR Completion and passing score of the Fundamentals of Engineering (FE) exam.
  • Driving is an essential function of this position. You must have a valid US driver license and an acceptable driving record. We will conduct pre-employment driving records checks on our final candidate(s). Your license does not have to be issued in Oregon to be considered.

Nice To Haves

  • Knowledge of engineering practices, statistics, and mathematical techniques (geometry, algebra and trigonometry).
  • Knowledge of engineering guidelines, theories, principles, practices, and methodologies.
  • Skill in reading, understanding, and applying specific instructions found in technical manuals, specifications, contract plans and other guidelines.
  • Proven experience in compiling data and statistics, applying engineering computations to design projects and clearly communicating the information.
  • Proven experience establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with coworkers and supervisory personnel.
