About The Position

The Construction Site Supervisor at Greater Rochester Habitat for Humanity (GRHFH) is often the first face a volunteer meets on site, and one of the most important ambassadors of our mission. This role is central to bringing people together to build not just houses, but homes, community, and hope.
Serving alongside volunteers and future homeowners, the Site Supervisor leads the day-to-day construction of Habitat homes with a strong emphasis on quality, safety, and learning. This is a hands-on role that blends skilled construction work with coaching, mentorship, and relationship-building. The Site Supervisor provides clear direction, real-time feedback, and practical training to staff and volunteers, helping ensure each build meets design specifications, stays on schedule, and is completed safely.

Requirements

• Valid NYS Class D Driver’s license with an insurable driving record; ability to drive large trucks with trailers.
• Strong understanding of residential construction methods, materials, and safety protocols, including OSHA standards, with particular expertise in foundations, framing, and interior finishing preferred.
• Ability to clearly communicate instructions and feedback while leading, coaching, and teaching individuals with varying skill levels and personalities; experience working with volunteers preferred.
• Proficient in following schedules and making necessary adjustments to ensure timely completion of tasks.
• Consistent and dependable attendance.
• CPR/First Aid certification (training provided), and valid Habitat Competent Person Training (training provided). Other valid trades certifications are a plus.
• A minimum of three years’ work experience in the residential construction field is required, six or more years strongly preferred.
• Ability to regularly lift and move materials weighing up to 50 pounds independently across various surfaces, with heavier items lifted using appropriate equipment or assistance as needed.
• Ability to communicate effectively in English, both verbally and in writing, and to work collaboratively in a team environment.

Nice To Haves

• Experience working for a Habitat for Humanity affiliate as construction staff or construction AmeriCorps is a plus.

Responsibilities

• Lead day-to-day construction activities to ensure homes are built to plan, to schedule, and to GRHFH quality standards.
• Supervise, train, and work alongside staff and volunteers to complete daily construction tasks safely and efficiently.
• Teach and guide individuals and groups of volunteers with varying skill levels, matching tasks to abilities while maintaining productivity and quality.
• Ensure required volunteer documentation and daily safety protocols are completed, including waivers and jobsite safety talks.
• Prepare jobsites for volunteer shifts by ensuring tools, materials, and equipment are available, functional, and compliant with GRHFH standards and OSHA guidelines.
• Maintain a safe jobsite by identifying hazards, ensuring proper use of PPE, and addressing risks promptly.
• Participate in weekly construction planning and volunteer scheduling meetings.
• Communicate jobsite progress, challenges, material needs, and schedule updates to construction leadership.
• Use materials and resources responsibly to minimize waste and control costs.
• Secure jobsites, tools, and materials to prevent loss, damage, or theft.
• Prepare for, schedule, and coordinate inspections to support timely approvals.
• Conduct homeowner pre–move-in walkthroughs and address identified items as appropriate.
• Assist in supervision of Jr. Site Supervisors and Construction Site Assistants, including task delegation, training, and feedback.
• Complete punch list items, repairs, and warranty work in accordance with GRHFH policies.
• Code and approve invoices weekly for review by the Construction Field Manager (CFM).
• Coordinate use of regular volunteer crews (e.g., Hammer & Saw, Cabinet Shop, trade volunteers) in collaboration with the Volunteer Coordinator and CFM.
• Identify and communicate jobsite issues, risks, and opportunities for improvement to construction leadership.
• Support and participate in special event days (may occur on evenings or weekends).
• Act as an ambassador to support the mission and values of Habitat for Humanity.
• Other duties as assigned
