About The Position

We’re looking for a Site Superintendent 2 who brings strong residential construction skills, a passion for safety, and the ability to lead teams of volunteers and emerging construction professionals to help make affordable homeownership possible. The primary responsibility of this position is to coordinate and oversee the daily construction operations required to build affordable homes in accordance with HFHDC goals and practices. This includes ensuring the safety of everyone on site, regardless of their status as a volunteer, contractor, employee or other, as well as meeting deadlines and budgets.

Requirements

  • Minimum 2-3 years of residential construction experience, including advanced knowledge of all phases of residential construction, the ability to read blueprints/house plans, diagnose and solve on-site challenges, plan several steps ahead, and teach others how to successfully complete construction tasks.
  • Understand and appreciate the mission of HFHDC and willing to actively support the growth and advancement of the organization.
  • Must be able to determine the appropriate tools/equipment for various construction tasks and utilize them according to safety guidelines.
  • Communicate effectively and deal tactfully with all kinds of individuals yet remain consistent in keeping a professional demeanor.
  • Possess the ability and patience to engage and supervise skilled and unskilled laborers in all facets of home construction.
  • Demonstrate excellent organizational skills and possess a strong attention to detail.
  • Comfort speaking in front of small groups.
  • Timeliness, dependability and an ability to work unsupervised are critical for this position.
  • Share our organizational values of working hard, valuing teamwork and being accountable, with professionalism and integrity.
  • Proficient and successful use of various technical programs for business/construction purposes including but not limited to Microsoft Office applications (including Teams) and Asana/Buildertrend/other build software.
  • Minimum 2 years of volunteer leadership or supervisory experience required.
  • Requires a minimum of a four-year high school diploma or equivalent.
  • Driver’s license and clean record required
  • HFHI competent person training and/or OSHA 30 (or willingness to complete upon hiring)

Nice To Haves

  • Lead-Safe Renovator certification (favorable but not required)

Responsibilities

  • Construct Homes Safely and Efficiently
  • Ensure HFHDC sites meet all safety & building regulations and work complies with company policies; communicate and enforce with volunteers, subcontractors and other personnel.
  • Be accountable to the construction schedule; identify materials and personnel needed to meet construction targets. Must plan for maximum use of available skills and resources and create a balance between leading others and personally completing the work.
  • Conduct daily site inspections and assessments to identify potential issues, develop solutions, and ensure work is performed to meet industry standards.
  • Communicate effectively with clients, subcontractors/vendors, Construction Manager, and HFHDC team members to update project progress, address concerns, and maintain positive working relationships.
  • Serve as the primary contact for subcontractors, inspectors and vendors to coordinate work and meet scheduling milestones.
  • Train, mentor and motivate construction AmeriCorps members and volunteer house leaders to maximize productivity and efficiency.
  • Effectively engage and supervise skilled and unskilled labor in all facets of home construction; play an active role in recruitment and retention of key construction volunteers.
  • Maintain a clean, organized worksite, including storage and trash receptacles; monitor erosion control and protect homeowner property from damage.
  • Provide input regarding cost-effective, energy-efficient, and environmentally friendly home designs and building practices.
