About The Position
The Construction Services Department Manager at Michael Baker International will play a pivotal role in overseeing the Construction Services group in New Jersey. This position is responsible for a wide range of functions including business development, quality control and assurance, staff utilization, financial management, and ensuring the safety of the team. The successful candidate will lead the statewide Construction Services practice, acting as both a seller and doer, while also serving as Project Manager or Construction Manager as needed. This role involves directing a team of field personnel across various projects, including Roadway, Bridge, Rail and Transit, Aviation, Water and Wastewater, and related Construction Management and Inspection projects. In this capacity, the Department Manager will be tasked with developing and growing the team, fostering positive client relations, and monitoring client satisfaction. The role requires a strategic mindset to develop and implement goals for the New Jersey Construction Services practice, collaborating closely with office leadership. The manager will review and analyze project staffing activities, costs, operations, and forecast data to assess departmental progress toward established objectives. Additionally, the manager will be responsible for business development and marketing strategies, including technical writing for proposals, as well as developing and monitoring the departmental budget and staff utilization. Leadership is a key component of this role, as the manager will mentor and motivate staff, addressing issues related to training, performance feedback, technical guidance, financial management, and client relations. The position also involves resolving personnel issues, ensuring compliance with quality management practices, and maintaining knowledge of applicable regulatory and industry standards. Ultimately, the Construction Services Department Manager will ensure that projects are delivered on time, safely, under budget, and to the highest quality standards.
