About The Position

The Construction Services Building Official (CSBO) is responsible for ensuring that buildings in Connecticut are designed and constructed to meet safety, accessibility, and energy efficiency standards. This role involves providing technical support, conducting code reviews, and inspecting over 100 projects annually to ensure compliance with state building codes. The CSBO will also assist in the development of the state building code and support municipal officials and construction professionals in interpreting and applying these codes effectively.

Requirements

  • Six years of experience in building code compliance plan review and inspection of building construction.
  • Two years of experience in inspection and review of plans for large-scale building projects (over 12,000 square feet).
  • Licensure as a Building Official or the ability to obtain it within three months of appointment.

  • Experience working on threshold projects in building code compliance.
  • Experience providing education to design professionals and contractors.
  • Experience using software for construction document review and inspection reporting.
  • Experience as a municipal Chief Building Official, Deputy Building Official, or Assistant Building Official in Connecticut.

Responsibilities

  • Interpret and apply building, plumbing, mechanical, and electrical codes and standards.
  • Provide technical assistance to state agencies, local officials, architects, and engineers regarding code compliance.
  • Conduct technical on-site inspections and evaluations on complex code issues.
  • Review and prepare recommendations for modification requests of the state building code.
  • Assist in the revision of the state building code by conducting research and drafting amendments.
  • Prepare and administer examinations for building code enforcement officials licensure.
  • Present educational training programs to local code enforcement officials and professional organizations.
  • Lead technical staff by assigning and reviewing work and providing training.
  • Testify at administrative hearings or courts of law as needed.
