About The Position

The Construction Project Manager for Special Projects at IdeaTek is responsible for leading the development and implementation of construction projects aimed at expanding the fiber optic network in the Kansas City Greater Metropolitan Area. This role involves high-level design, project management, and collaboration with various stakeholders to ensure successful project execution. The position is temporary and part-time, with a potential extension based on performance.

Requirements

  • 5+ years of experience managing projects or general leadership experience.
  • High School Diploma or equivalent.

Nice To Haves

  • 5+ years of Telecommunications Outside Plant Design, Construction, Maintenance, or Estimating Experience.
  • Pre-Construction Experience in designing route maps, preparing construction specifications, scopes of work, and determining cable placement.
  • Experience with permit applications for underground utilities.
  • General knowledge of the work that Vibratory Plow and Directional Boring Machines perform.
  • General knowledge of construction methods (Vaults, Pedestals, Duct, Cable Placement) and aerial construction methods (Pole Attachments, Separation Distances, Tensions/Sag).
  • Familiarity with Telecommunications Fiber Maps (Vetro and others).

Responsibilities

  • Drive construction routes and coordinate with fiber engineering to establish priorities, scopes, schedules, and budgets.
  • Assist the project PM through the early life cycle of the project (Design, Estimating, Permitting, and Procurement).
  • Coordinate with project PM to pursue and obtain competitive pricing from construction contractors.
  • Monitor special materials required for construction work to ensure availability for project outcomes.
  • Communicate effectively to create a positive work environment and a culture of continuous improvement.
  • Manage timelines and constraints, ensuring clear communication to all stakeholders, especially the project PM.
  • Utilize creative problem-solving skills to identify unique solutions that help reduce construction costs in densely populated areas.
  • Provide schedule updates and status of specific project planning activities.
  • Identify, understand, and actively manage project development risks, including challenging permits and physical construction obstacles.
  • Proactively communicate, collaborate, and solve issues with internal and external stakeholders.
