About The Position

The Construction Project Manager at the Colorado Department of Transportation (CDOT) is responsible for overseeing construction projects, ensuring compliance with departmental policies, and managing relationships with contractors and stakeholders. This role involves acting as a fully authorized representative in charge of construction projects, providing technical information, and ensuring safe and effective construction practices. The position requires a combination of project management skills and technical knowledge in transportation engineering.

Requirements

  • Six years of full-time professional work experience in transportation engineering construction/design project management.
  • Experience in developing/overseeing the design of plans, specifications, and detailed cost estimates.
  • Experience in coordinating with specialty units and outside stakeholders.
  • Experience in negotiating change orders and contract administration.
  • Experience in developing pay estimates and consultant management.

  • Depth and breadth of Project Management experience.
  • Ability to prioritize competing needs and document decisions with data.
  • Comfortable leading meetings with competing stakeholder needs.
  • Fluency in Microsoft Office Suite, SAP, Google, SharePoint.

Responsibilities

  • Administers construction contracts and monitors consultant's construction management of transportation projects.
  • Monitors project schedules, expenditures, materials, and produces daily documentation.
  • Works with PE to plan manpower needed for each project, ensuring that material and equipment needs are adequate.
  • Reviews all activities and reports to confirm that all project items are complete.
  • Analyzes claims by reviewing claim packages from contractors and makes recommendations to the Resident Engineer.
  • Reviews plans and specifications to make decisions regarding layouts, alignments, and specifications for bid document packages.
  • Executes change orders as required.
  • Initiates, develops, and maintains effective professional working relationships with work units within CDOT and external entities.
  • Coordinates and interacts daily with the general public, private consultants, and contractors involved in the projects.
  • Leads and mentors less experienced assistant project managers.
