About The Position

The Design Specialist (Entry-Level) supports the Design Manager in overseeing planning, design coordination, and documentation activities for capital improvement projects within a major ISD Bond Program. Acting as part of the Owner’s Representative team, this role ensures that design deliverables align with program objectives, stakeholder expectations, budget constraints, and schedule milestones. This position is structured to provide early-career professionals with direct exposure to large-scale public sector program delivery, consultant coordination, and design management best practices within a highly collaborative environment.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Architecture, Engineering, Construction Management, or a related discipline (or currently graduating in May or August).
  • 0–2 years of relevant experience (internships or academic project experience acceptable).
  • Basic understanding of design phases (SD, DD, CD) and construction documentation.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, PowerPoint).
  • Strong organizational and time management skills.
  • Attention to detail with the ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously.
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to work in a team-oriented, fast-paced environment.
  • Professional demeanor and willingness to learn within a client-facing setting.

Nice To Haves

  • Exposure to design processes or construction projects is preferred but not required.
  • Familiarity with design and coordination tools (e.g., Bluebeam, AutoCAD, Revit) is a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Assist the Design Manager in coordinating design activities across multiple projects and disciplines (architectural, structural, MEP, civil).
  • Support the review of design documents (SD, DD, CD phases) for completeness, consistency, and adherence to program standards.
  • Track design deliverables, submissions, and review cycles to ensure alignment with project schedules.
  • Maintain organized records of design documents, submittals, RFIs, and meeting minutes.
  • Prepare and distribute meeting agendas, notes, and action item logs.
  • Assist in compiling reports, presentations, and executive summaries for internal and client stakeholders.
  • Interface with architects, engineers, consultants, contractors, and district representatives as directed.
  • Support coordination meetings and ensure follow-up on outstanding design issues.
  • Assist in facilitating communication between project stakeholders to maintain alignment and resolve issues.
  • Assist in ensuring design compliance with Dallas ISD standards, applicable codes, and regulatory requirements.
  • Support quality assurance/quality control (QA/QC) reviews under the direction of the Design Manager.
  • Track design-related milestones and flag potential risks or delays.
  • Support review of cost estimates and value engineering efforts during design phases.
  • Participate in site visits to observe project conditions and verify alignment with design intent.
  • Document site observations and report findings to the Design Manager.
