About The Position

Are you looking to take your career to the next level? If so, Wilson & Company, Inc., Engineers & Architects, is currently seeking a qualified Construction Observer for our Las Cruces office. This person will be responsible for the inspection of specific operations on various construction type job sites (transportation, water/wastewater treatment facilities, infrastructure projects, etc.).

Requirements

  • 5+ years of construction related experience preferred but not required.
  • NMDOT Technician Certification and/or or Training Program Certification is a plus or must be willing to obtain certification from Associated Contractors of New Mexico Testing Technician Certification Program for required NMDOT Trainings.

Nice To Haves

  • Ability to travel and stay out of town a week at a time as required providing on-site observation, inspection, and testing.
  • Capable of lifting and handling 50+ pounds
  • Knowledge of typical construction practices, NMDOT specifications and ability to learn on the job through observation of others and asking questions.
  • Ability to work independently and incorporate efficient time management practices.
  • Ability to effectively communicate both written and orally and coordinate with the owner, landowners, and contractors.
  • Disciplined individual who maintains accurate, timely and descriptive records of daily, weekly, and monthly progress.
  • Experience working with DOTs and thoroughly understand their requirements and expectations for projects.

Responsibilities

  • Observe and inspect various construction projects from beginning to completion.
  • To include, but not limited to, thorough documentation of daily progress, computing and tracking materials and quantities, material sampling and testing, maintaining timely, accurate records of project progress and general oversight.
  • Read and interpret plans, details, specifications, and other contract documents.
  • Recognize and report any deviations from the contract documents.
  • Conduct/Oversee laboratory and field testing and reports on soils, aggregates, asphalt, and other materials.
  • Maintain clear and effective written and oral communication and be able to answer inquiries as required.
  • Attend and conduct meetings to gain insight of the project prior to construction, progress updates and other project related meetings.
  • Measure and scale distances along with competent math skills to provide accurate documentation of work completed.
