About The Position

Metro Consulting Associates, LLC. (MCA) is looking for a Construction Materials Testing Technician I to join our team! MCA is a multifaceted energy, land, and community development engineering and surveying firm serving public and private sector clients throughout the Midwest. The Construction Engineering Technician I is responsible for traveling to construction project sites and performing, under close supervision, a variety of quality assurance testing and inspections on construction materials such as soils, deep foundations, concrete, asphalt, and masonry to assure that the components of each structure are assembled in a manner consistent with plans and specifications.

Requirements

  • One (1) or more years of relevant field experience preferred.
  • Required to have satisfactory results on a Motor Vehicle Record check and maintain a valid driver’s license.
  • Able to pass federal DOT drug screening and background check.
  • Must be able to communicate professionally with client representatives (supervisor, foreman, project managers, engineers, etc.) at project sites.
  • Ability to read, understand and interpret spec books, blueprints, maps.
  • Able to work individually or as a team.
  • Knowledge of construction instruments/tools.
  • Ability to learn to new field technologies/ willingness to get new certifications as required.
  • Ability to focus on various tasks throughout the day and change focus with short notice.

Responsibilities

  • Perform a range of field testing and inspection services of construction materials (soil, concrete, asphalt, aggregates, and masonry) on roads, utilities, parking lots, and various construction projects.
  • Review all data for compliance with project specifications; record and communicate any deviations from the specifications to the project supervisor and client.
  • Complete daily report of observation and accurately record test results; submit results to project supervisor for review and processing.
  • Assist project supervisor with deficiency resolution.
  • Communicate and interact with the general public, city employees, contractors, various agencies, and non-city utilities.
  • All other duties as assigned.

  • Compensation ranges between $20.00 to $27.00 per hour, depending on experience.
