About The Position

ECS is seeking a Construction Materials Testing (CMT) Senior Project Manager to join our Salt Lake City team. This is a key technical and client-facing role within our CMT operations, responsible for ensuring project success from proposal to final invoice. You’ll lead materials testing efforts on complex development, infrastructure, and transportation projects while supporting field staff, clients, and internal stakeholders. Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED
  • Minimum 5 years of direct experience in construction materials testing or special inspections
  • Valid driver’s license (required if driving for or on behalf of ECS)
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Solid understanding of ASTM and AASHTO standards, UDOT specifications, and construction safety practices

Nice To Haves

  • Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering, Construction Engineering, Materials Science, Architectural Engineering, or Geology
  • PE or PG license in the State of Utah (preferred, not required)
  • Relevant certifications such as ACI, ICC (Post Tensioning, Structural Steel, Bolting), UDOT, or AASHTO
  • Experience working in the Utah market and established relationships with local contractors or agencies
  • Proficiency with proposal writing, scope negotiation, and client-facing project management

Responsibilities

  • Manage the day-to-day operations of assigned CMT projects, including technical oversight and client coordination
  • Review field and lab testing reports to ensure accuracy and compliance with project specifications (e.g., ASTM, AASHTO, UDOT)
  • Act as primary point of contact for clients, engineers, and contractors throughout the project lifecycle
  • Attend and lead project meetings, site visits, and walkthroughs as needed
  • Support billing, collections, and budget management for assigned projects
  • Provide field staff training and technical guidance; serve as a mentor to junior project managers and technicians
  • Coordinate scheduling, resource allocation, and staff assignments in collaboration with team leads and administrative staff
  • Help develop and maintain client relationships through responsive communication and quality service delivery
  • Supervise testing of construction materials including concrete, soil, asphalt, aggregates, and steel for commercial, industrial, and transportation infrastructure projects
  • Oversee resolution of field issues, non-compliance reports, or test failures
  • Maintain communication with internal departments to ensure cohesive project execution
