Were just built to be better. We are a great company. We are seeking a Construction Materials Laboratory Technician to join our San Diego, CA team! Come join us! This individual will partake in the testing of construction materials such as concrete, soil/aggregate, HMA, and steel. The projects range from high-rise buildings, hospitals, schools, commercial, roadways, and others. Testing of these materials is critical to ensure safety the building. This individual must be willing to learn, be a strong note taker, and work well with others. Safety is a priority here at Atlas and we encourage every new hire to carefully think about the task at hand and how to navigate it safely.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent (required).
  • Entry-level: No prior experience required; on-the-job training provided.
  • Able to lift up to 50 pounds.
  • Basic math skills.
  • Valid driver's license with acceptable driving record.
  • Basic computer/technology skills.
  • Ability to travel about 10% of the time.
  • Work well with others.
  • Show up on time, take instruction from leadership.
  • Work overtime when needed.

Nice To Haves

  • Associates or Bachelors degree in Civil Engineering, Construction Technology, Materials Science, or a related field (preferred but not required).
  • Knowledge of equipment functions and maintenance requirement.

Responsibilities

  • Understanding of basic math, unit conversions, and density/volume calculations
  • Familiarity with ASTM, AASHTO, and Caltrans test methods (e.g., ASTM C39, ASTM C136, ASTM D1557, CT202, CT216, etc.)
  • Ability to maintain accurate laboratory records and test data sheets.
  • Understanding of laboratory safety procedures and sample handling.
  • Competence with balances, ovens, sieves, molds, and testing apparatus.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel, Word, or LIMS data entry systems.
  • Ability to lift up to 50 lbs of materials or samples.
  • Ability to stand for extended periods while performing repetitive tasks.
  • Use of PPE (safety glasses, gloves, steel-toed boots, etc.).
  • Maintenance of lab equipment and good housekeeping.
