About The Position

Kleinfelder's Construction Services team is looking for a Construction Materials Laboratory Supervisory Technician / Manager to perform testing, and provide coordination, quality management, and oversight to its lab in Las Vegas, NV. The Laboratory Manager will manage all activities related to performance of laboratory testing in support of the Las Vegas Geotechnical and Construction Materials Engineering and Testing Laboratory. They will meet agreed upon project deadlines by performing testing; scheduling technicians and managing workload; They will confirm that technicians correctly perform testing, calibrations, and calculations and computations by implementing and maintaining the requirements of the Kleinfelder Quality Management System; and hire, train, coordinate and supervise assigned staff. The successful candidate will bring strong leadership and knowledge of commercial laboratory operations.

Requirements

• 5+ years of experience with laboratory testing of construction materials.
• Valid driver's license with a clean driving record and ability to pass a pre-employment drug screening.
• Bachelor's degree in civil engineering, construction technology, construction management, or related engineering field.
• Ability to work independently and as a team member, maintaining composure, and working effectively in a high-pressure environment with changing priorities.
• Must have excellent interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills.
• Able to use a company provided laptop or tablet computer and a working knowledge of MS Office programs (e.g. Word, Excel, Outlook, etc.).
• Organization and multi-tasking ability.
• A good work ethic, attention to detail, and high level of personal integrity.
• Authorization to work in the United States.

Nice To Haves

• Previous experience as a laboratory manager or supervisor.
• Previous experience with Geotechnical testing, such as Resistance value, Direct Shear, Consolidations, etc.
• Engineer-In-Training (EIT) or Fundamental of Engineering (FE) certification.
• American Concrete Institute (ACI) certifications: Aggregate Testing Technician - Level 1 or 2, Aggregate/Soils Base Testing Technician, Concrete Strength Testing Technician, Concrete Field-Testing Technician - Grade 1, Concrete Laboratory Testing Technician - Level 1 or 2.
• Nevada Alliance for Quality Transportation Construction (NAQTC) certifications.
• National Institute for Certification in Engineering Technologies (NICET) certifications: Construction Materials Testing: Asphalt, Concrete, Soils (Levels I, II, or III).
• NDOT certifications: Soils and Aggregate, HMA I & II, Additional NDOT Certifications, Nuclear density gauge safety, handling, operation, and transporting training/certification.

Responsibilities

• Promote, sustain, and demonstrate Kleinfelder's values and safety commitment.
• Prudently manage resources and staff to ensure efficiency and quality.
• Supervise operational personnel (laboratory staff), including resource coordination, internal quality control, and management of deliverables.
• Communicate with clients and coworkers to successfully and profitably deliver laboratory services on a consistent basis.
• Provide technical leadership and guidance for staff.
• Represent Kleinfelder in local professional organizations.
• Responsible for making sure project deadlines are met by providing proper scheduling, coordination, and organization of items to be tested and available resources.
• Responsible to perform routine to complex lab testing including soils, aggregates, concrete, asphalt, masonry, and steel materials.
• Responsible for performing the testing, documentation, computations, and quality review in accordance with Kleinfelder's Quality Management System Manual and applicable testing standards (e.g. ASTM, AASHTO, Caltrans, etc.).
• Ensures that laboratory equipment is properly maintained and calibrated in accordance with internal procedures.
• Maintenance of Kleinfelder's local lab accreditations.
