S&ME is looking for an eager and dedicated full-time Construction Materials Engineering Technician to join our Construction Services team in Spartanburg, South Carolina. What You Will Do: As a seasoned Construction Materials Engineering Technician, you'll be equipped with a company vehicle to conduct field testing and observations of construction materials at various project sites. At S&ME, we are committed to ensuring everything is "built right," and we take that responsibility very seriously. You'll also have the chance to earn additional certifications, which will help you advance in your career, take on more complex testing tasks, assume greater responsibilities, and mentor junior technicians. Project and Document Review: Understand project requirements before fieldwork; accurately record observations and test results related to construction materials such as soil, concrete, asphalt, and other pertinent materials. Metafield® Utilization: Efficiently manage data using field and laboratory information systems. Equipment Maintenance: Ensure field and lab tools are accurate and meet industry standards. Inspection Monitoring: Follow International Building Code (IBC) standards for testing and inspecting construction materials. Stakeholder Communication: Interact with management, contractors, and clients to report project progress and resolve any issues. Experience shifting work hours based on project needs and weather conditions, including early mornings, some Saturdays, and overtime (paid at time and a half).

Requirements

  • High School diploma/GED
  • Minimum of 3 years of experience in construction testing/inspecting soil, concrete, masonry, and/or asphalt materials
  • Effective communication skills (speaking, reading, and writing) using the English language
  • Good math skills with a basic understanding of weight, volume, pressure, and units of measure
  • The understanding of a fluctuating schedule and an interest in occasional travel

Nice To Haves

  • at least two(2) or more active certifications
  • American Concrete Institute (ACI): Field Testing Grade I; Strength Testing Technician; Laboratory Technician
  • International Code Council (ICC): Special Inspector (Reinforced Concrete, Masonry, Soils)
