About The Position

ECS is looking for a Construction Materials Testing (CMT) Group Supervisor to lead our Utah-based materials testing operations. This leadership role offers a unique opportunity to grow and shape a high-performing team in a rapidly expanding market. Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED
  • 12+ years of experience in Construction Materials Testing, Special Inspections, or equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Proven experience supervising technicians or managing a testing lab
  • Valid driver's license (required if driving for or on behalf of ECS)

Nice To Haves

  • Registered Professional Engineer (PE) in the State of Utah - preferred, not required
  • Relevant certifications such as ACI, ICC (Post Tensioning, Structural Steel, Bolting), UDOT, AASHTO, Fireproofing, and Caulking
  • Strong working knowledge of ASTM and AASHTO standards, UDOT specifications, and local building codes
  • Established relationships with contractors, engineering firms, and public agencies in the Salt Lake City and broader Utah market
  • Experience with proposal writing, project scoping, marketing, and client development

Responsibilities

  • Supervise and manage day-to-day operations of the Construction Materials Testing department, including lab and field activities
  • Plan and oversee inspections and material tests for foundations, pavements, retaining structures, structural steel, and concrete placement
  • Assign and support technicians performing compaction testing, moisture-density testing, slump tests, and compressive strength testing
  • Provide technical direction and mentorship to technicians, field engineers, and administrative staff
  • Oversee quality assurance and control for testing and inspection services
  • Perform technical reviews of field and laboratory reports to ensure accuracy and compliance with standards (e.g., ASTM, AASHTO, UDOT specs)
  • Maintain and grow relationships with existing clients; support business development activities to win new work
  • Represent ECS at industry networking events, professional association meetings, and community functions
  • Develop and implement marketing strategies to promote ECS services within the Utah market
  • Coordinate staff and equipment for job site testing of concrete, soils, asphalt, steel, and other construction materials
  • Support proposal preparation, scoping, and budgeting efforts for new projects
  • Track project progress and departmental profitability; manage group P&L in collaboration with senior leadership
  • Ensure compliance with safety, quality, and reporting standards
