About The Position

SCI Engineering, Inc. is a professional consulting and engineering firm offering a variety of services from the design development stage through construction. We specialize in Geotechnical, Environmental, Natural Resources, Cultural Resources and Construction Material Testing. The Construction Materials Testing Intern supports field and laboratory testing of construction materials under the guidance of experienced technicians and engineers. This hands-on role involves collecting samples, conducting basic tests, recording results, and learning industry-standard procedures. The intern will work primarily in the field and must be comfortable working outdoors, communicating with construction personnel, and handling physical tasks. Why Join SCI? Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent required; pursuing a degree in civil engineering, construction management, or related field preferred.
  • No prior experience required, but exposure to construction or testing is a plus.
  • Must have valid driver’s license and reliable transportation.
  • Comfortable working outdoors in various weather conditions.
  • Strong attention to detail, willingness to learn, and ability to follow written and verbal instructions.
  • Ability to lift and carry up to 75 pounds.

Responsibilities

  • Assist with compaction testing using nuclear and drive cylinder gauges.
  • Conduct basic concrete sampling and testing.
  • Measure soil moisture content.
  • Complete field logs, test forms, and data entry with attention to detail.
  • Communicate test results with field and office personnel.
  • Learn to read construction documents and blueprints.
  • Follow safety protocols and maintain equipment.
