About The Position

Construction Manager – Highway Projects Location: Richmond, VA A well-established, award-winning engineering and construction management firm is seeking an experienced Construction Manager to support highway and transportation infrastructure projects in the Richmond, VA area. This role offers the opportunity to manage complex roadway and bridge construction projects while working alongside a highly respected technical team. Position Overview The Construction Manager will oversee highway construction and inspection activities across all project phases to ensure compliance with plans, specifications, and contract requirements. The role requires progressive experience managing increasingly complex transportation projects and collaborating with multidisciplinary teams to deliver high-quality results.

Requirements

  • 8+ years of progressive experience managing highway construction projects
  • Strong background in roadway, bridge, and traffic-related construction methods and practices
  • Extensive knowledge of VDOT Road and Bridge Specifications and related manuals
  • Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering or a related field
  • Proficiency with construction management systems and Microsoft Office tools
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities, analyze cost and schedule impacts, and lead project teams

Nice To Haves

  • Professional Engineer (PE) license
  • Certified Construction Manager (CCM) credential

Responsibilities

  • Manage assigned elements of highway construction projects, including contractor compliance, inspection, quality control/assurance, documentation, budget, schedule, and contract administration
  • Support and coordinate with senior construction leadership on project delivery
  • Analyze and interpret construction plans, specifications, and contract language to ensure constructability
  • Identify design discrepancies and evaluate impacts to schedule, cost, and constructability
  • Review project documentation for compliance and direct corrective actions when necessary
  • Monitor project budgets and schedules and recommend adjustments as needed
  • Supervise and mentor inspection and project staff; review work products for compliance
  • Lead and participate in pre-construction meetings, progress meetings, and coordination sessions
  • Prepare and review construction estimates, work orders, and time impact analyses
  • Coordinate with design teams, materials, environmental, traffic engineering, right-of-way, utilities, and public stakeholders
