About The Position

The University of Iowa department of Design & Construction is seeking a Construction Manager Team Lead. This position will be responsible for direct administrative supervision and support of construction project managers. Collaborates with the Associate Director for the functional area, other senior leadership team members, and other functional area Team Leads. About Design & Construction: Design & Construction leads a comprehensive and collaborative approach to design and construction excellence in creating a campus that is consistent with the University of Iowa’s status as one of the nation’s leading academic/research institutions. We support the University’s mission to educate, provide community service and encourage environmental sustainability. Design & Construction takes an integrated and sustainable approach to the long-term planning and management of the University of Iowa’s land, buildings, and historic resources. We facilitate and support decision making processes of Senior Administration and the Board of Regents in these areas.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Professional experience (typically 5-7 years) in project management.
  • Excellent communication (written and verbal) and problem-solving skills.
  • Proficient in computer software applications such as Microsoft Office Suite, SharePoint.
  • Familiarity with construction site safety guidelines.
  • Understanding of the total-cost-ownership approach to project decision making and other effective practices.
  • Professional experience working effectively with individuals from a variety of backgrounds and perspectives.
  • Experience in a customer focused, team-oriented environment.

Nice To Haves

  • Supervisory and performance management experience.
  • Professional experience (typically 5-7) in construction management or construction supervision on a university campus.
  • Extensive experience managing complex project budgets.
  • Expert/Leader experience in project management principles.
  • Experience with commissioning processes and state building inspection procedures.
  • Knowledge of the operating principles, major issues, governmental regulations, and code of ethics for the healthcare industry: ability to apply this understanding appropriately to healthcare related situations.

Responsibilities

  • Provides direct supervision, leadership and coaching to construction project managers (CPMs).
  • Provide honest, clear, and timely feedback. Demonstrate good listening and reasoning skills.
  • Facilitates discussion of team goals, roles, needs, and responsibilities.
  • Employs appropriate methods of facilitating collaborative communication.
  • Model behavior that exhibits exceptional customer service.
  • Manage conflicts between delivering institutional objectives and project team member isolated interests.
  • Assist CPMs in the execution and administration of all contracts and change management issues arising on projects.
  • Provide advice on development/interpretation of contract documents.
  • Ensure project information is maintained in department project management system, BuildUI.
