About The Position
The Construction Liaison and Design Manager is responsible for coordinating community engagement and impact mitigation services for public infrastructure improvement projects within the public right of way and City buildings. This role supports the Infrastructure & Asset Management's community engagement planning, ensuring broad, diverse, and timely stakeholder engagement in Somerville's efforts to rebuild its aging utility and building infrastructure. The position aims to create and enhance opportunities for participatory, collaborative, and meaningful community engagement, which is essential for the successful execution of infrastructure projects. The essential functions of this role include creating and implementing comprehensive and inclusive community engagement strategies to expand public participation in the planning and design of various infrastructure improvement projects, such as streetscapes, water, sewer, drainage, and municipal building improvements. The Construction Liaison and Design Manager will coordinate and facilitate virtual, hybrid, and in-person community meetings with residential communities, abutting businesses, and special interest citizen groups. These meetings are designed to inform constituents, gather design input, and develop construction impact mitigation strategies. The role also involves communicating complex technical information inclusively to a broad audience and developing robust relationships with a diverse range of stakeholders. Additionally, the manager will maintain organized and accurate records of community engagement activities, coordinate interpretation and translation services for public meetings, and ensure that engagement opportunities are socially just and accessible. The position also supports Project Managers with oversight over contracted work and assists in preparing project status updates for internal distribution. The Construction Liaison and Design Manager will engage constituents to identify and prioritize issues and coordinate with various city departments to develop strategies for effective communication throughout the project schedule.
