About The Position

Lays out, positions, aligns and fits together fabricated parts of structural metal.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED. Absent a diploma or GED then six (6) months related experience and/or training
  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules and manuals
  • Basic math skills
  • Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral or diagram form
  • OSHA 10-hour training
  • Rough terrain forklift certification
  • Aerial lift certification
  • Must be willing to travel to job locations
  • Must work in other trades as needed
  • Must have all tools on required Ferguson Construction tool list to move to next level
  • Work overtime and Saturdays as needed
  • Perform general maintenance or cleanup work
  • Attend appropriate training courses when requested in order to move to next level
  • Work with others in a harmonious way and maintains an attitude becoming a Ferguson Construction Ironworker
  • The employee is regularly required to stand, reach with hands and arms and climb or balance.
  • The employee is frequently required to walk, use hands to finger, handle or feel or talk and hear.
  • The employee is occasionally required to stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl.
  • The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 25 pounds, frequently lift and or move up to 50 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 100 pounds.
  • Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision and depth perception.

Responsibilities

  • Shake out parts
  • Positions or tightens braces, jacks and clamps
  • Bolt parts in position for welding or bolting
  • Uses transit to locate reference points
  • Demonstrate the proper use of all personal protective equipment
  • Identify proper rigging equipment
  • Know and properly use crane signals
  • Operate cut-off saw
  • Operate different types of man lifts in a safe manner
  • Operate Sawz-all
  • Begin learning to rig structural member for lift
  • Begin learning to complete structural detailing
  • Have an understanding of Skyweb strapping
  • Operate torch for straight and bevel cuts
  • Begin learning to read pre-engineered erection drawings
  • Reasonable expectation to help train under-skilled coworkers
  • Other duties and tasks as assigned by a superintendent/supervisor/crew leader
