About The Position

Job Purpose The Construction Instructor will manage the NCCER Certification process of students in the construction pathway. The Construction Instructor will adhere to all requirements for training for industry recognized credentials including OSHA 10, and NCCER Core (Introduction to the Construction Trades). This individual agrees to maintain records and provide all documentation required by each credentialing entity. Furthermore, the Construction Instructor will ensure that each student receives their certification by appropriately registering, filing, and submitting all steps necessary to complete the certification process. The Construction Instructor will also provide appropriate modeling and instruction of employability / soft skills necessary to attain and retain employment in the construction sector. They will also ensure effective communication as a member of the school team. Duties and Responsibilities Primary job duties and responsibilities: Uses approved curricula, teaches workplace safety resulting in the awarding of the OSHA – 10 Basic Safety certification. Implements construction laboratory safety plan and adheres to all procedures for reporting accident/injuries. Develops and coordinates a pacing guide to align with NCCER curricula. This pacing guide will ensure adequate time necessary for participants to learn construction skills that result in the achievement of industry credentials. Provides a supportive and optimistic learning environment in which participants are actively engaged in learning. Ensures participants are actively engaged in functional and appropriate construction / construction related activities that incorporate a variety of instructional methodologies including group work, hands-on activities, and multi-media presentation of information so as to account for a variety of learning styles. Coordinates with academic teachers to identify participants who require learning accommodations and is required to appropriately incorporate those accommodations into all instructional activities and testing with regards to the individual’s dignity, respect, and privacy. Provides support and guidance to participants as they develop construction craft skills with an emphasis on employability / soft skills such as teamwork, communication, accountability, and resiliency. Incorporates critical thinking and functional academics by providing project-based and/or problem-based learning opportunities to help students develop the communication and teamwork skills necessary to work through issues that are common to the building trades. Ensures proactive, open, and effective communication with other members of the school team especially in regard to issues and concerns related to participation, performance, and well-being. Mentors, coaches, and advises students about workforce skills needed to gain employment in this job sector. Use personal experiences to guide and positively influence students as it relates to leadership development, self-discipline, and optimism. In coordination with the School Director, Director of Career-Technical Education and Placement Specialist, helps build relationships and contacts with construction and/or construction related partners that may provide employment opportunities for graduates. Provides required performance reports; participates in relevant meetings, workshops and/or committees. Maintains a detailed tracking system and completes all steps of certification processes ultimately resulting in the participants receiving their credentials in a timely manner.

Requirements

  • No restrictions in securing an Ohio Department of Education vocational teacher license or permit.

Nice To Haves

  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in construction or a construction-related field
  • Proficient with NCCER preferred.
  • High School Diploma or Equivalent
