About The Position

Wilson & Company, Inc., Engineers & Architects, is seeking a qualified Construction Inspector for their Springfield office. This role involves the observation, inspection, and documentation of specific operations on construction job sites for transportation and utility infrastructure projects. Requirements

  • Completion of MDOT Construction Inspector Certification Program or willing to obtain certification upon hire.
  • Proficient computer skills, MS Office, Bluebeam.
  • Traffic Control Supervisor, Transportation Erosion Control Supervisor, Asphalt / Concrete Pavement Inspection certifications or willing to obtain upon hire.
  • Pre-employment drug screening is required.

Nice To Haves

  • Ability to cover the surrounding region as required providing on-site observation, inspection, and project documentation.
  • Capable of lifting and handling 50+ pounds.
  • Knowledge of typical construction practices, MDOT specifications and ability to learn on the job through observation of others and asking questions.
  • Ability to work independently and incorporate efficient time management practices.
  • Ability to work nights as required for certain projects.
  • Ability to effectively communicate both written and orally and coordinate with the owner, landowners, and contractors.
  • Disciplined individual who maintains accurate, timely and descriptive records of daily, weekly, and monthly progress.
  • Experience working with MDOT, Local Agency projects and local municipalities and thoroughly understand their requirements and expectations for projects.
  • Background in material testing and / or industry related certifications a plus.
  • 5+ years of construction related experience.

Responsibilities

  • Observe and inspect various construction projects from beginning to completion.
  • Thorough documentation of daily progress, computing and tracking materials and quantities, material sampling and testing, maintaining timely, accurate records of project progress and general oversight.
  • Read and interpret plans, details, specifications, and other contract documents.
  • Recognize and report any deviations from the contract documents.
  • Conduct/Oversee laboratory and field testing and reports on soils, aggregates, asphalt, concrete, and other materials.
  • Maintain clear and effective written and oral communication and be able to answer inquiries as required.
  • Attend and conduct meetings to gain insight of the project prior to construction, progress updates and other project related meetings.
  • Measure and scale distances along with competent math skills to provide accurate documentation of work completed.
