About The Position

The Metropolitan St. Louis Sewer District provides comprehensive wastewater and storm water management services to residents and businesses in both St. Louis City and County. As one of the most recognized employers in the region and a fixture in the downtown area, MSD employs over 900 individuals in a wide-range of roles including skilled crafts and laborers, engineering, information technology, finance, human resources and administration support.  We invite you to be part of the team!

Requirements

  • Graduation from high school or equivalent and two years of progressively responsible experience in the construction and inspection of sewers.
  • MUST POSSESS A VALID DRIVER'S LICENSE ISSUED BY STATE IN WHICH EMPLOYEE RESIDES.
  • PURSUANT TO MSD'S "SUBSTANCE ABUSE POLICY AND PROCEDURES," THIS POSITION HAS BEEN DESIGNATED AS SAFETY SENSITIVE AND CANDIDATE MUST PASS A NON-D.O.T. DRUG TEST FOR THIS POSITION.
  • EMPLOYEES OCCUPYING THIS POSITION ARE NOT SUBJECT TO FEDERAL (D.O.T.) DRUG AND ALCOHOL TESTING REGULATIONS.
  • MUST BE ABLE TO PROVIDE TRANSPORTATION FOR FIELD WORK.
  • EMPLOYEES OF MSD MUST HAVE A MEETS EXPECTATIONS.

Nice To Haves

  • Working knowledge of the methods, materials, practices and techniques involved in the construction of sewers.
  • Working knowledge of standard engineering field tests.
  • Skill in maintaining effective working relationships with contractors, their subordinates, and the general public.
  • Skill in interpreting plans and specifications.
  • Skill in maintaining records and preparing reports.

Responsibilities

  • Inspect the construction of sewers and sewer structures.
  • Inspect work continuously and at all stages to insure conformity with plans and specifications.
  • Check grades and lines, forms, steel reinforcement, and the pouring, finishing and curing of concrete.
  • Inspect weight, quantity and quality of materials for conformity with established requirements.
  • Take samples of materials for testing.
  • Make detailed notes on pre-construction landscape, any damage done by contractor, work progress, underground utilities, etc.
  • Maintain records and prepare reports.
  • Perform related work as required or as delegated by supervisor.
