About The Position

The ISL Langley Municipal team is seeking one Municipal Civil Engineering Technologist or Technician. This position is an excellent fit for individuals seeking a well-rounded lifestyle, devoting themselves to site inspection and fieldwork during the construction season, generally running all year round, with some office work opportunities in the winter months. Some office responsibilities could offer you the opportunity to contribute to other project deliverables, which may include: cost estimation, bid preparation, drafting (AutoCAD C3D), and focus in on your continued professional development, ensuring you continue to grow in your role and are prepared for the next challenge. ISL’s Langley Municipal Team is committed to finding, mentoring, and growing the right individual. We are a team of Construction Project Managers, Technologists, Engineers in Training that work together. Our collaborative team approach is integral to our success. We are open to considering a graduate from a technology program who has a strong desire to grow and learn or a more experienced technologist who is ready to advance their career with ISL. You will serve as the onsite Engineer’s representative and will be responsible for overseeing construction activities on assigned projects. During winter months you can anticipate: Supporting cost estimation; Reviewing and preparing tender documents; Supporting drafting, utilizing AutoCAD/Civil 3D software; Receive training to round out your field experience that is company paid (AutoCAD, Safety training, role or client centric training for career growth and development in your role)

Requirements

  • A minimum of 3 years' experience as a Construction Inspector
  • Or, a minimum of 5 years’ experience as a field engineer, superintendent, foreman, construction coordinator, or in materials testing
  • A diploma or degree in civil engineering, construction management, construction, or a related field is preferred. Those without a degree or diploma that have strong demonstrated experience and competencies (beyond minimums above) in fulfilling these roles may be considered
  • Working knowledge of construction specifications and standards
  • A demonstrated and strong commitment to collaborative teamwork
  • Strong capability to perform effectively under minimal supervision
  • Detail orientated, with strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Strong organizational and time management skills, and ability to prepare and close out the day
  • Valid Driver’s license

Nice To Haves

  • Experience working on Lower Mainland, BC Municipal or Transportation construction projects.
  • Strong AutoCAD/Civil 3D software skills

Responsibilities

  • Conduct field inspections and track quantities of earthworks, utilities (shallow and deep), road construction, asphalt, concrete, landscaping, streetlighting and related infrastructure
  • Ensure compliance with safety, construction contracts, specifications, and drawings
  • Monitor construction progress and contractor schedules
  • Disciplined approach to completing site documentation for record, including safety reporting, site diaries, daily and weekly reports, and photographs
  • Communicate effectively (verbal and written) with project leads, contractors, and team members
  • Work independently across multiple sites, demonstrating strong organization skills, initiative and reliability
  • Ability to work longer hours during the construction season which may include night shifts, weekends, and holidays
  • Utilize basic AutoCAD/Civil 3D and survey tools for field measurements and documentation of construction progress and quantities
  • Uphold safety protocols and adapt to varying field conditions (weather, physical activity)
