About The Position

The City of Pearland, TX is seeking to hire a full-time Construction Inspector to improve aspects of the day-to-day operations of our Engineering division within our Engineering and Public Works department. The Construction Inspector earns a competitive hourly wage of $25.27- $27.35/based on experience and qualifications. A DAY IN THE LIFE AS A CONSTRUCTION INSPECTOR General Description The purpose of this position within the organization is to inspect all portions of construction work to ensure that engineering practices and materials comply with approved plans, specifications, ordinances, and to record findings with photos. This position works independently, under limited supervision, reporting major activities through periodic meetings.

Requirements

  • Requires an associate degree or specialized courses/training equivalent to satisfactory completion of two years of college in engineering or closely related field.
  • Requires two years inspection, construction or closely related experience.
  • Certified Public Infrastructure Inspector or ability to obtain within 18 months
  • Certified Stormwater Inspector
  • Valid Class "C" Driver's License

Responsibilities

  • Inspect and evaluate the installation of temporary and permanent traffic control devices during and after construction
  • Inspect and evaluate the condition of the Stormwater Best Management Practices during and after construction
  • Inspect the construction of various public infrastructures such as water lines, sanitary sewer lines, force mains, storm lines detention ponds, concrete pavement, and traffic signals.
  • Ensure all public infrastructure is constructed as detailed on approved construction plans without compromising the means and methods as specified in specifications and engineering guidelines.
  • Monitor and verify various construction material test/quality control test including but not limited to concrete compressive strength, water quality test, and sanitary sewer air test.
  • Document construction progress and conditions through photographs for project records.
  • Consults with supervisors, project managers, and engineers for conflict mitigation or onsite construction and engineering adjustments.
  • Inspects any construction that occurs within the Public Right-of-Way, and Easements
  • Review plans, specifications, and sites for construction projects; inspects the construction of surface street improvements (i.e. paving, curb and gutter, sidewalks, etc.) bridges, storm drains and boxes, and underground utility systems including lift station.
  • Interacts with the public and maintains positive communications and public relations on all facets of public infrastructure.
