About The Position

This skilled technical position is responsible for the construction inspection of water and wastewater facilities within the authority of the Division of Utilities and Solid Waste Management. Supervision is received from the Construction Manager or Engineering Manager. NOTE: The upper pay range reflects possible wage rates for internal County transfers and promotions, which are calculated per County policy. Requirements

  • High school graduation, or the equivalent
  • Minimum 1 year of construction and inspection work experience in one or more of the following fields: utility installation (water, sewer, storm drain), building construction, storm water management construction, transportation-related projects, and/or parkland development construction
  • Possession of a valid automobile operator's license
  • Ability to maintain County Authorized Driver privileges
  • Considerable skills with computerized systems and equipment to include MS Office Suite
  • Extensive knowledge of construction materials, equipment, tools and methods related to the above projects
  • Extensive knowledge of local, State and Federal construction standards, specifications, building codes and other construction requirements
  • Extensive knowledge of construction schedules and stages of construction
  • Considerable knowledge of civil engineering practices, surveying practices and principles, and mathematics
  • Considerable knowledge of potential hazards associated with this type of work, with ability to effectively initiate and enforce appropriate safety precautions
  • Ability to effectively read and interpret blueprints, plans and specifications
  • Ability to demonstrate sound technical judgment in the performance of assigned duties
  • Strong and effective spoken and written (English) communication skills, including the ability to write and maintain clear, concise reports and records
  • Ability to develop and maintain effective working relationships with co-workers, contractors and the general public

  • Experience with MS Project, Expedition or Primavera software

Responsibilities

  • Inspect construction of water and wastewater infrastructure, e.g., transmission and distribution mains, interceptor and collector sanitary sewers, service lines, pumping stations, treatment facilities, etc.
  • Direct contractors to perform construction work in accordance with contract documents
  • Coordinate with contractors and engineers in making field corrections and changes from plans and specifications
  • Check supplies, materials and equipment against the approved material submittal/specifications for compliance, and for defects or damages
  • Check plans and specifications for construction elevation and line
  • Prepare and submit project reports and records of work performed
  • Document and administer all project records (e.g., inspection logs, RFI's, RFPs, CORs, requisitions, etc.) on assigned projects
  • Perform other related duties as required
