Engineer Specialist 2 – Construction Inspector Oregon Department of Transportation Delivery & Operations Division – Region 1 Construction Section Portland The role: This position is an inspector position in which you would be that contractors are following the plans and specification. This position supports ODOT’s mission by ensuring that we are building safe and reliable transportation system. A day in the life: Inspect and monitor construction work to ensure materials and workmanship conform to project plans and specifications. Measure and record contractor work and prepare source documents to justify payment. Monitor project safety procedures and construction methods. Spot-check survey stakes, grades, stations, locations, and alignments before material placement. Ensure all required tests are completed, documented, and submitted to ODOT in a timely manner. Prepare and submit documentation and reports per contract and regulatory requirements to protect ODOT’s interests. Requires working long and flexible hours, being on call 24 hours a day, 7 days a week including holidays, working nights, working outdoors at least 50% of the time, occasional travel with overnight stays and lifting up to 50 pounds. Work is performed near traffic and construction equipment, in adverse weather conditions, near hazardous chemicals and radioactive materials and requires climbing ladders, moving around rough terrain and working at heights. Requirements

  • Three years of experience in the field of engineering in construction inspection or surveying
  • An associate degree in the field of engineering (civil or transportation-related) and one year of engineering technician experience in construction inspection or surveying
  • A bachelor’s degree in the field of engineering (civil or transportation-related)
  • An equivalent combination of experience, education, and training.
  • Note: Related experience, education, and training can include, but is not limited to construction management, forestry, geography, geology, geomatics, mathematics, physics, remote sensing and urban planning.
  • Driving is an essential function of this position. You must have a valid US driver license and an acceptable driving record. We will conduct pre-employment driving records checks on our final candidate(s). Your license does not have to be issued in Oregon to be considered.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience in construction inspection and contract administration - Highway preferred.
  • Experience interpreting construction plans and specifications.
  • Experience applying knowledge of mathematics, survey principles, engineering and construction practices and procedures.
