About The Position

Overview: The Construction Inspector is responsible for monitoring and documenting construction activities for public infrastructure projects. These may include water and wastewater systems, transportation projects, residential subdivisions, and commercial developments. The role supports the Construction Manager by coordinating field matters and assisting in the implementation of the Construction Management Plan.

Requirements

• High School Diploma / GED
• Minimum of 5 years of experience in civil construction observation, including earthwork, water systems, sanitary sewer systems, and paving required
• Strong knowledge of applicable state and local construction rules, regulations, specifications, and guidance documents
• Ability to read and interpret construction plans, specifications, and contract documents
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills
• Proficient in Microsoft Word and Excel
• Strong customer service mindset and ability to maintain professional relationships
• Able to manage tasks with shifting deadlines and priorities
• Capable of working in a variety of weather conditions
• Valid driver's license or the ability to obtain one
• Availability to work Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., with occasional overtime and weekend work as needed

Responsibilities

• Monitor and document contractor performance to ensure timely execution and adherence to approved plans and specifications
• Review material inspection reports prepared by others
• Observe work sites to identify potential environmental or safety hazards
• Serve as the engineer’s representative for the observation and inspection of construction activities
• Maintain detailed daily logs and supplement records with relevant photographs
• Measure and verify dimensions, elevations, and alignments of structures to ensure compliance with design documents
• Assist with field coordination and the resolution of construction-related issues
• Identify and report potential coordination or quality concerns
• Participate in and, when appropriate, lead field progress meetings
