About The Position

The Construction Inspector is responsible for performing inspections of municipal construction projects to ensure compliance with plans, specifications, and applicable regulations. This role involves routine inspections throughout the project duration, serving as a liaison between the city, contractors, and property owners, and conducting safety inspections of bridges and other structures. The inspector monitors construction progress, reviews pay requests, and maintains detailed records of inspections and findings.

Requirements

• High School Diploma or GED with six months to one year of post-secondary study.
• Two to four years of experience in construction inspection or related field.
• Valid Driver's License with an acceptable driving record.
• Certified in trench safety and confined space.
• Certified bridge safety inspector, erosion and sediment control inspector, asphalt field inspector, nuclear density, and concrete field inspector.

Nice To Haves

• NIMS certification.

Responsibilities

• Perform inspections of municipal construction projects for compliance with plans and specifications.
• Conduct routine inspections throughout the duration of construction projects.
• Serve as a liaison between the city, contractors, and property owners during construction.
• Monitor progress of municipal projects through on-site inspections and visual observations.
• Negotiate plan change orders or construction alterations between the city and contractors.
• Assist contractors with technical support and review pay requests.
• File daily construction inspection reports and maintain records of work performed.
• Conduct safety inspections of bridges and assist in stream profiles when needed.
• Inspect curb cut, excavation, storm drain, erosion, and sediment control permits.
• Provide emergency response during severe weather conditions.
