About The Position

STV has an immediate need in the Austin, TX area for a Construction Inspector for our Water/Wastewater division. The successful candidate will support our current staff while assisting in growing the W/WW Inspection practice to better service our clients statewide. This role offers unlimited opportunities to maintain existing client relationships, broaden STV’s service offerings geographically, be involved in critical W/WW projects, mentor junior staff, all while promoting the culture of a healthy work-life balance.

Requirements

  • Applicant must possess a minimum of 5 years of experience in W/WW pipeline or facility construction or construction inspection.
  • Having broad expertise or unique knowledge, uses construction concepts skills.
  • Works on significant and unique issues and projects requiring an evaluation of intangibles.
  • Exercises independent judgment in methods, techniques, and evaluation criteria for obtaining results.
  • Occasionally provides consultation and advice to management regarding matters of considerable importance to the functional area.
  • Exercises judgment to independently determine methods and procedures for completing new or special assignments.
  • Has the ability to adapt to sudden changes in schedule and/or task.
  • Analyzes schedule and prioritizes tasks to ensure critical work is observed and documented.

Responsibilities

  • Under supervision, coordinates and performs observation of large diameter W/WW utility installations, excavation and backfill, tunneling, lift stations, and concrete buildings/structures construction projects according to the specific areas of expertise of the inspector; performs related duties as required.
  • Conduct daily on-site observations of the general progress of the work to confirm for the Owner and Engineer that the work is proceeding in accordance with the contract documents. Any defects or deficiencies in the work shall be reported to the Owner and Engineer. Give observations, opinions, and recommendations for corrections.
  • Review project schedules and consult with Owner and Engineer regarding acceptability.
  • Review the Contractor’s construction sequencing proposals for all construction work to be undertaken.
  • Assist in coordinating scheduling of project activities to minimize conflicts with Owner’s activities.
  • Reviews construction plans, specifications, encroachment permits, and other plans affecting assigned projects.
  • Participates in meetings to discuss construction details and resolves issues with contractors and other project stakeholders.
  • Assist in coordinating materials testing.
  • Identifies on-site project problems. Observe reports and alerts appropriate members of project team on non-conformance issues.
  • Monitor the correction of project deficiencies.
  • Observe field tests of equipment, structures, and piping, and review the resulting reports, commenting to Owner and Engineer.
  • Identifies and recommends approval of necessary contract and/or plan adjustments to accommodate field conditions.
  • Maintains daily diary and field records of material and quantities used.
  • Maintain set of working drawings accurately depicting changes to the construction contract including but not limited to RFI’s, field changes, change orders, and change directives.
  • Review Contractor’s payment applications for accuracy. Advise the Construction Manager for payment or rejection.
  • Investigates citizen complaints related to encroachment and/or grading violations.
